5 Abstrakt Vzhledem ke svému vlivu na fitness a různé biologické procesy je velikost těla jednou z nejdůležitějších vlastností organismu. U hmyzu i ostatních ektotermních živočichů například pozitivně koreluje s fekunditou. Růst, který určuje konečnou velikost těla, je tak důležitým znakem živočichů a jeho studium může ozřejmit některé aspekty evoluce velikosti těla. Bohužel je ale růst u hmyzu v mnoha life-history studiích bagatelizován, není brán ohled na jeho komplexitu, danou zejména existencí distinktních larválních instarů. Nepřesný záznam růstových charakteristik pak může zkreslit i rozdíly v růstu mezi velikostně dimorfními pohlavími. Tato práce má za cíl zaznamenat růstovou trajektorii dvou druhů zlatohlávků. Z té potom popsat proximátní mechanismy růstu s ohledem na jednotlivé instary. Dále si práce klade za cíl nalezení vývojových mechanismů, které vedou k pohlavnímu dimorfismu ve velikosti u těchto dvou druhů zlatohlávků, kteří se liší mírou pohlavního dimorfismu. Růst je jasně rozdělen na tři svébytné části a v každé této části (instaru) ho popisuje asymptotická křivka. Instary na sobě ale nejsou nezávislé, růst předchozího instaru ovlivňuje růst v instaru následujícím. Růstové charakteristiky se neliší mezi pohlavím. Pohlavní dimorfismus ve velikosti u obou druhů vzniká díky rychlejšímu růstu... 6 Abstract Due to its effect on fitness and many biological processes is body size one of the most important attribute of organisms. Body size is positively correlated with fecundity in insects and other ectotherms. Growth, which determine body size, is therefore crucial feature of animals. Study of growth can elucidate some aspects of body size evolution. Unfortunatelly, many insects life-history studies do not consider its complexity, especially the existence of distinct larval instars. Inaccurate record of growth trajectory may result also in biased differences in growth between sexually dimorphic sexes. Aim of this thesis is to record growth trajectories of two flower beetle species (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Cetoniinae). These growth trajectories enable to define proximate mechanisms of growth with regard to individual instars. Determination of developmental mechanisms of sexual size dimorphism is another goal of this study. The growth is clearly divided in three distinct periods. In each individual period (i.e. instar) is described by asymptotic curve. The instars are not independent on each other - the growth in following instar is influenced by growth in previous.
