Fascioloides magna (motolice obrovská) a Fasciola hepatica (motolice jaterní) jsou veterinárně a medicínsky významní endoparazité z třídy Trematoda, podtřídy Digenea. Jsou původci onemocnění fascioloidóza (F. magna) a fasciolóza (F. hepatica). Napadají široké spektrum definitivních hostitelů, kterým způsobují značné zdravotní obtíže a nezřídka i smrt. Typickým definitivním hostitelem F. magna je především divoká zvěř z čeledi Cervidae (jelenovití), ale vyskytuje se i u domácích zvířat (turovití). Naproti tomu F. hepatica je nejčastěji nalézána u hospodářských zvířat a vzácně u jelenovité zvěře. Místem typické lokalizace v definitivním hostiteli je pro obě motolice jaterní tkáň - F. magna jaterní pseudocysty, F. hepatica žlučovody. V jaterní tkáni motolice způsobují výrazná poškození. Každý druh hostitele se invazi jaterních motolic určitým specifickým způsobem brání, někteří hostitelé jsou velmi odolní, jiní naopak citliví. Fascioloides magna (giant liver fluke) and Fasciola hepatica (liver fluke) are veterinary and medically important endoparasites belonging to the class Trematoda, subclass Digenea. They are the causative agents of the diseases fascioloidosis (F. magna) and fascioliasis (F. hepatica). They can infect a wide range of definitive hosts to which they cause serious health problems often leading to death. The typical final hosts of F. magna are primarily members of free living cervids, but this fluke can also occasionally occurs in domestic bovids. In contrast to this, F. hepatica is mostly parasite of domestic animals and rarely of cervids. The typical localization of both trematodes inside the definitive host is primarily the liver tissue - F. magna liver pseudocyst and F. hepatica bile ducts. In the liver tissue both flukes cause significant damage. Each species of host developed specific defense system to the invasion, some of them are quite resistant to the infection, some of them susceptive.
