Abstract: The regional unemployment rate is used as one of the main indicators of regional differentiation process in the Czech Republic after 1989. The aim of the thesis is to analyze a set of explanatory factors, which determines the regional variability of unemployment rate and its changes before and during the economic recession in the Czech Republic in 2008-2009. In addition, the thesis also examines different impacts of this set of factors on the regional variability of unemployment rate in different types of regions in the Czech Republic based on different level of economic development. As expected, the conclusion of this work is a changeover in the set of shaping factors influencing the regional variability of unemployment during the economic recession.
