Cílem této práce je komparace daňové zátěže zaměstnanců v České republice a ve Spojených státech amerických, a to dle legislativy platné v roce 2016. V rámci teoretické části se věnuji popisu daňových systémů se zaměřením na zdanění příjmů ze závislé činnosti. U Spojených států amerických krátce uvádím i vývoj daňového systému. Praktická část se skládá ze dvou kapitol. Ta první je zaměřena na výpočet efektivní sazby daně pro poplatníky z vybraných typů domácností, druhá prakticky orientovaná kapitola se zabývá globální progresivitou daně z příjmů. Rovné rozdělení příjmů ve společnosti je analyzováno pomocí Lorenzovy křivky a Giniho koeficientu. Uskutečněné výpočty poukazují na progresivní působení daně jak v ČR, tak i ve Spojených státech amerických s tím, že vyšší míra daňové progrese a zároveň nerovnosti v rozdělení příjmů je přítomna v USA. V otázce efektivních sazeb daně z příjmů je vyšší daňová zátěž patrna u USA, v rámci celkových efektivních sazeb se rozdíly mezi ČR a USA snižují. The purpose of the master thesis is to compare the tax burden of employees in the Czech Republic and in the United States of America according to the legislation in 2016. The theoretical part is devoted to the description of tax systems, focusing on the taxation of income from employment. In the part United States I briefly mention the development of the tax system. The practical part consists of two chapters. The first one is focused on the calculation of the effective tax rate for taxpayers from selected types of households. The second one deals with global progressivity of the income tax. Equal income distribution in society is analyzed using the Lorenz curve and the Gini coefficient. The calculations indicate progressive tax effects both in the Czech Republic and in the United States with higher rate of tax progression and also higher inequality of income distribution in the United States. In the issue of effective rates of income tax is evident higher tax burden in the United States. Differences of total effective rates are decreasing between both countries.
