Účel práce je sumarizovat informace o kontrabasu a jeho vývoji. První kapitola pojednává o historických spojitostech mezi prapůvodními smyčcovými nástroji a violami da gamba a da braccio. Následně o přerodu největší violy da gamba v kontrabas. Kapitola druhá se zaměřuje na současnou podobu kontrabasu, jeho stavbu a rozdíly v ní. V kapitole třetí je stejným způsobem rozebrán kontrabasový smyčec. Nejprve jeho vývoj a následně popis moderní varianty. V kapitole čtvrté práce srovnává velikosti nástrojů v průběhu historie a informuje o nástrojích nevšedně velkých rozměrů. Důležitou součástí práce jsou také přílohy, ve kterých je na obrázcích a v tabulkách dobře vidět, o čem konkrétní části práce hovoří. Přílohy jsou umístěné na konci práce. Purpouse of this work is tu summarize information about double bass and its evolution. First chapter is about historical conections between old types of string instruments and viola da gamba and braccio. Then about viola da gamba and its metamorfosis to double bass. Second chapter describes modern double bass, its construction and differences between its types. Double bass bow is described in third chapter. Also with its history and modern look. And last chapter is about sizes which double bass construction went trhough and also about extremely big instruments. Important part of this work is also insert.
