Elektronické zpracování je i v případě rukopisů úkolem aktuálním, často však dochází k záměně modernosti za módnost. Pokusy odhodit vše "zastaralé" a začínat vždy znovu od počátku jsou předem odsouzeny k nezdaru. Komise pro soupis a studium rukopisů Archivu AV ČR publikovala v minulosti Zásady popisu rukopisů, řadící se v rámci Evropy mezi nejnáročnější. Z nich musí vycházet i elektronické zpracování. Základem připravovaného generálního katalogu rukopisů v ČR se stane podrobná databáze, která bude obsahovat stejné položky jako v tištěných katalozích. Databáze bude průběžně doplňována postupně dokončovanými fondovými soupisy; její vytvoření tedy nepůjde cestou recepce výsledků cizí práce, ale cestou vlastního vědeckého výzkumu. Electronic adaptation is the task of the day also in the case of manuscripts, nevertheless the modern is often mistaken for modish. Attempts to throw out of the obsolete, and to begin again from the start are condemned to fail. In the past, the Committee for the Cataloguing and Study of Manuscripts of the Archives of the Academy of Sciences of CR published Principles of the Manuscripts Description belonging to the most exacting in Europe. Electronic adaptation has to have its roots in these Principles, too. The detailed electronic database that will contain the same items as these printed catalogues becomes a base for the prepared general manuscript catalogue of the Czech Republic. The database will be continually supplemented with the gradually finished catalogues of manuscript collections; thus, its creation will not go the way of the reception of somebody else's work, but on the contrary it will use its own study and research.
