Práce se zabývá kongresovým cestovním ruchem v Evropské unii a na základě analýzy jeho současného stavu hodnotí potenciál, nedostatky a příležitosti pro rozvoj kongresového cestovního ruchu v EU do budoucna. Práce se věnuje komparaci situace v oblasti kongresového cestovního ruchu na území Evropské unie a Spojených států amerických zejména z hlediska organizačního zajištění, financování a počtu uskutečněných akcí za jeden kalendářní rok. Důraz je v práci kladen na nadnárodní/federální úroveň, která je prokládána příklady z nižších úrovní za účelem praktického zachycení diskutovaných témat. The thesis deals with the topic of the congress tourism in the European Union and based on the analysis of its current status it evaluates the potential, shortcomings and opportunities for the development of congress tourism in the EU in the future. The thesis is focused on the comparison of the situation in the European Union and the United States of America especially from the point of view of the organisational background, financial issues and the number of realised events per year. The emphasis is put on the supranational/federal level which is mixed with the examples of the lower levels in order to capture the discussed topics in practise.
