Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou organizace Islámský stát, která se rozšířila v oblasti Iráku a Sýrie a na zabraných územích oznámila v polovině roku 2014 vytvoření chalífátu, který není uznáván žádným jiným státem. Islámský stát změnil status quo Iráku a Sýrie a výrazně přispěl k destabilizaci Blízkého východu. Cílem práce je především analyzovat faktory, které vedly k radikalizaci místních obyvatel, eventuálně k podpoře a rozšíření této organizace. Teoretická část vysvětluje, jak vznikaly státy na Blízkém východě, popisuje kořeny sunnitsko-šíitského konfliktu a analyzuje socioekonomický a zčásti bezpečnostní vývoj v Iráku a Sýrii, zatímco praktická část je zaměřena zejména na vývoj v Iráku po pádu režimu Saddáma Husajna v roce 2003 a na vývoj v Sýrii po rozpoutání občanské války v roce 2011, jelikož se jedná o zlomové události v dějinách těchto dvou států. Poslední kapitola shrnuje dosavadní úspěchy v boji proti této organizaci a nastiňuje, jaký vliv na stabilitu oblasti Blízkého východu její existence má. The thesis deals with the topic of the organization Islamic State, which has expanded in the territories of Iraq and Syria where it announced an establishment of a caliphate, which has not been recognized by any state. The Islamic state has challenged the status quo of Iraq and Syria and has significantly contributed to the destabilization of the region of the Near East. The aim of the thesis is primarily to analyze factors that have led to the radicalization of the locals, eventually to the support and expansion of this organization. The theoretical part of the thesis explains how the states of the Near East were created, describes the roots of the Sunni-Shia split and analyzes the socioeconomic and partly security development of Iraq and Syria. The practical part focuses especially on the development in Iraq after the fall of the regime of Saddam Hussein in 2003 and on the development in Syria after the beginning of the civil war in 2011 because these events are of great importance for today's situation. The last chapter of the thesis summarizes the efforts in fighting against this organization and outlines the influence of its existence on the region of the Near East.
