Tato práce shrnuje poznatky z antropologie a lingvistiky a poukazuje na úlohu jazyka ve společnosti. Na konceptech lingvistické antropologie a sociolingvistiky dokazuje význam jazyka v kultuře a tedy možnost jeho využití v diplomatickém vyjednávání. Dále se zabývá praktickým využitím anglického jazyka a vlivem americké kultury v domácí a zahraniční politice Spojených států - především tedy zmiňuje amerikanizační programy a šíření angličtiny v zahraničí. Poslední část se zabývá současnými programy kulturní a veřejné diplomacie USA, snaží se identifikovat programy, prostřednictvím kterých dochází k aktivnímu šíření angličtiny a americké kultury. This thesis summarizes the findings of anthropology and linguistics and highlights the role of language in society. On the concepts of linguistic anthropology and sociolinguistics proves the importance of language in culture and therefore the possibility of its use in diplomatic negotiation. It also deals with the practical use of the English language and the influence of American culture in the domestic and foreign policy of the United States - primarily it mentions amerikanization programs and disseminating English abroad. The last part deals with the actual programs of cultural and public diplomacy of the United States, trying to identify programs that lead to active dissemination of English and American culture.
