Zemní plyn se na energetické spotřebě Evropské unie podílí významnou měrou. Devět zemí EU představuje čisté dovozce plynu, z toho šest států získává surovinu od jediného zdroje. Jak komplikovaný může být nedostatek této suroviny, se některé státy EU přesvědčily v letech 2006, 2007 a především v lednu 2009, kdy došlo k přerušení dodávek zemního plynu z Ruska. V důsledku těchto problémů začala EU hovořit o takzvané diverzifikaci. Ke zvýšení energetické bezpečnosti má posloužit několik scénářů, které ve své práci hodnotím z hlediska ceny, dalších nákladů a pravděpodobnosti realizace. Natural gas plays a significant role in Europe's energy consumption. Nine EU countries are net importers of gas, six states buy the commodity from a single supplier. Some EU member states experienced how complicated can a shortage of natural gas be in 2006, 2007 and especially in January 2009 when supplies from Russia were interrupted. As a consequence the European Union began to talk about diversification. There are several scenarios how to increase energy security of the EU. My thesis deals with these scenarios in terms of their price, additional cost and probability.
