Role pacienta se nezměnila už několik desetiletí. Pacient je vnímán pouze jako věc, často je stavěn do podřízené role bezmocného člověka, o kterém rozhodují jiní. Nemá možnost volby a musí se podrobit zdravotnickému personálu, který jedná převážně autoritativně a dochází tak k nerovnováze vztahu zdravotník - pacient. Však dnes v 21. století je všem známo, že každý člověk má právo rozhodovat sám o sobě a nelze mu toto právo upírat. Právo moci o sobě rozhodovat hraje důležitou roli i v péči o nemocné a nemělo by se na něj zapomínat. V soukromích zdravotnických zařízeních je opačná situace. Zde je pacient na prvním místě v plánování péče. Je nadřízený zdravotnickým pracovníkům a sám rozhoduje o tom, jakým způsobem bude léčen a za jakých podmínek. Pacient je plně informován o svém zdravotním stavu, což se ve státním zařízení často opomíjí. Patient´s role hasn´t changed several decades. Patient is only taken as a thing, he often stands in a lower position as a powerless human been, whom other people decide for. He doesn´t have the possibility to decide by him and he has to remind to medical stuff, which act mainly authoritatively and it comes to inability of the relation: medic- patient. It´s generally known that each human been has the ability to decide about himself by the law and nobody has the right to deny it from the patient in 21st century. There is diverse situation in private medical institution. The patient is on a first place in planning care here. He is on higher position to medical stuff and he decides by himself in what ways he´s going to be treated and in what conditions. Patient is fully informed about his medical stage, what is often left out in state institution.
