Abstract: In the present study, the occurence of B-chromosomes in wild strain of the Mediterranean flour moth Ephestia kuehniella is reported. The origin and composition of these chromosomes were studied by means of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), genomic in situ hybridization (GISH), molecular cloning and other methods of molecular cytogenetics. A comparative analysis was performed to study the effect of supernumerary chromosomes on the reproductive capacity of E. kuehniella.
