Korupce v křesťanském národě: „Ovlivňuje křesťanská víra úroveň korupce ve společnosti?“
Kraus, František ; Houdek, Petr (advisor) ; Svoboda, Miroslav (referee)
What are the determinants of corruption? This thesis builds upon contemporary approaches to assessing the level of corruption in different countries using purely economic determinants such as the aggregate income, level of education, openness to trade or taxation. This method is further enhanced by involving variables mapping the religiosity of the surveyed states as institutional determinants. Faith works as an agent that reduces selfish behavior and stresses moral values, thus it should prove to reduce corruption. The dataset involves data of 30 countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the years 1999-2010. Two independent OLS models are set up using corruption perception indicators as endogenous variables; one with purely economic determinants, and the other with added religious determinants of corruption. Expansion of the model gives out a more robust set of results with greater determination. The results show that increasing number of Protestants in a society correlates with lower levels of corruption. The effect of the government spending on education has been considerably reduced after involving the religious variables. However, corruption does not seem to be influenced by the percentage of Christians in total population.

Informative value of the cost efficiency concept in banking
Marková, Katarína ; Mejstřík, Michal (advisor) ; Pečená, Magda (referee)
The concept of cost efficiency has repeatedly been proven to have some signaling effect for the risk of a bank failure. In this paper we examine the informative value of the efficiency scores of institutions that have been experiencing distress within the current 'subprime' crisis. For this purpose we employ the parametric stochastic cost frontier method and estimate the cost frontier of five European banking sectors using the pre-crisis data of the period 2004-2007. On a sample of 18 bailed-out institutions we then investigate whether abnormal development in terms of relative cost efficiency preceded the distress. We find that in all examined sectors, except of the British one, distressed institutions performed prior to the crisis on average worse than their peers in terms of relative cost efficiency. Besides, we observe that while the high-profile rescue cases of continental Europe (Dexia, Fortis, HRE) were preceded by years of excessively poor performance, the bailed-out British banks were in all concerns best performers within their relevant industries. The paper is concluded by a discussion of the fundamental risks that result from the current reshaping of the European banking industry. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Finanční ohodnocení krásy krajiny - metoda CVM
Cudlínová, Eva ; Lapka, Miloslav
Evaluation of landscape amenity is not very common and relatively difficult from the economic point of view. In our case study focused on comparing aesthetic preferences of Czech and Japan respondents regarding rural landscape. We used the contingent valuation method. We also wanted to reveal the respondent’s preferences in a financial form. These preferences served us as quantitative indicator for an attestation of the respondent’s qualitative preferences. It seemed that a strong correlation between the aesthetical and financial evaluation exist in two extreme cases – respondents were not interested, or they were strongly involved in landscape amenity. A substantial difference occured between the Czech and Japanese respondents in the case of case of open or closed access to the landscape.

These companies are firstly examined by relevant financial analysis. Consequently, the output of selected companies is determined using the indicator of economic value added EVA INFA. Obtained values of indicators are compared with sector values through benchmarking diagnostic system of financial indicators INFA and then statistically verified. The main objective of this thesis is to identify these critical factors by using questionnaire and by available literature sources. Based on these results, recommendations are made and the critical factors are determined.

Nguyen Thi Minh, Nguyet ; Štěrbová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Kopecký, Jan (referee)
Developing countries, and especially Asian are playing an increasingly larger role in international trade. The aim of this thesis is to examine the current status of Asian developing countries in world trade, to analyse the impact of involvement in international trade on their economy in the period since the eighties to today. The work will focus in detail on three selected countries: China, India and Vietnam. In order to meet the objectives of the work mainly used methods are analysis, comparison and induction. Research has been carried to the conclusion that the share of developing countries in international trade Asia continues steadily to grow, but is influenced by developments in the major economies and the main driving force is still China. Shares of other Asian developing countries on the world market are still relatively small. The fact is that international trade has helped these economies to reach positive developments. ŠOUNOVÁ, Jitka
SOCIAL INPACT OF THE MENTAL ANOREXIA AFFECTING CHILDREN´S PATIENTS ON HE FAMILY In choosing the subject of my degree work I was influenced fundamentally by my experience gained during the department of children´s psychiatry. At thes very interesting work I had opportunity to become acquainted not only with various psychiatric diagnoses but with plenty of human fates in particular. The girls with plenty of human fates in particular. The girls wth mental anorexia were frequent patients of this department. During their long-term and often repeated hospitalization I met both the patients and the whole families. That´s why I could follow the development of the children affected like this and the impact of this illness on the family as well. The mental anorexia is a very grave and lingering illness belonging to the group of disorders in food ingestion. The consequences of this illness for he health can be of an persistent character and it is not exceptional that this illness is even fatal. The therapy is spite of all therapeutical possibilities, the modern psychiatry has at disposal. Therefore, the families of the patients have not only to get over the fear for the life and health of their members, but they have also to overcome longlasting psychological stress connected with the care of the person affected like this. This care can influence the running of the family fundamentally. It often happens that the family has to reduce the professional activities with respect to the exacting care. This can result in aggravation of the economic situation of the family. A considerable lowering of the living standard and the following crisis can take place in families with low incomes. Permanent psychological stress, deterioration of the economic situation and fair for the child can influence also the relations between individual members of the family. It is no exception that this stress has an adverse effect on the marriage of the parents, and that expecially in the case that the marriage was a problematic one as early as before the child fell ill.
