In the book History of Music, the reader learns about music through all epochs of humanity (from prehistory to the present) in a simple, comprehensive way. The book is illustrated to entertain both small and large readers who appreciate the quality of the workmanship. The text in the book is processed in structured info-blocks, profiles of musicians and short poems, serving as a mnemonic aid. As part of my bachelor's thesis, I deal with a graphic concept, illustration, the concept of publishing a book, the preparation of a sales e-shop.

F. X. Brixi's Oratorium pro die sacro parasceves

The thesis deals with the musical and stylistic analysis of the F. X. Brixi's oratorio Judas Iscariothes, that was preserved in the Osek Monastery under the name Oratorio pro die sacro parasceves. The first part of the thesis describes the musical history, preserved music sources and inventories of Osek. The next section deals with the oratorio in Osek. The main point of this chapter is to inventory oratorio productions performed in Osek during the 18th and early 19th century. The key part of the thesis is the musical and style analysis of the oratorio Judas Iscariothes. Appendix contains the edition of this oratorio.

Non - European Cultures in the Mirror of Selected Eighteenth Century Opera Libretti. An Attempt to Typology

English abstract The master's thesis deals with different representations of non-European cultures and their inhabitants in musical dramas (operas and related genres) of the eighteenth century. Firstly it gives some typical characteristics of these musical artworks in historical context (focusing on Italian and French examples especially) than it concentrates on the topic of so-called exoticism in general. The final part of the thesis which is based on three case studies formulates some typical approaches to the problem of representation of non- european cultures by analyzing musical settings, stage representations and especially librettoes of three important operatic works by Vivaldi (Motezuma), Graun (Montezuma) and Rameau (Les Indes Galantes). The topic of exoticism in Handel 's selected operas is mentioned in a short survey. Parallelism as a principle of multi-voice leading

The text focuses on parallel motion of voices as a type of multi-voice leading, as an element or a factor in process of composition in the context of music theory, and also in the context of different periods of history of music from prehistory to the present with the main consideration for the use in my own latest work. The first part of the text deals with the concept of melodic and harmonic parallel voice leading regarding to its sound quality and functional meaning in a musical piece. The second part is a chronological interpretation of the conventions of using the principle of parallel voice leading in the process of composition or interpretation in terms of individual periods of history of music.

Anthony Celestýn Mentzel and music in 18th century Broumov

In the first instance the work is concerned with the historical background of Broumov. It also focuses on the operation of both Broumov schools in the 18th century (the monastic school and the municipal schools) with an emphasis on local music education and activities. Further, the work deals with two Broumov collections of music, monastery and church ones. They provide valuable information about local music service in the 18th century, regarding both spiritual figural music and choral practice. Product sheet music of monastic collection from the 17th and 18th centuries, is one of the attachments. A description of the sources, with which study works, is provided. These are five manuscripts by Anthony Celestýna Mentzel (1684? -1740) containing a total of thirteen of his compositions, which are in this work analyzed from the music and text point of view. Their editions are also attached to the work. In conclusion, the study focuses on the rare occurrence of the viola d'amore in some of Mentzel's compositions.

History of interpretation and understanding of European music in Japan

The history of European music in Japan: how people have changed their
perception, understanding and interpretation of it over the past 150 years.
During the reign of the Tokugawa Shogunate, Japan was closed off from the
rest of world. It was only with the arrival of US warships in 1853, that one year
later the country was forced to terminate its isolation. More than 150 years have
passed since Japanese people began to listen to and appreciate western music,
and it has been 136 years (1879) since Western music was first introduced into
the Japanese school education system.
150 years is not a long enough time-span. So how has the Japanese
approach to Western music developed in these years?
In this work, I consider the adoption and development of Western music in
Japan not only against a musical background but also from a historical
perspective; I take into account factors such as the development of Japanese
culture and industry not to mention the unique character and attitudes of the
Japanese people.

The Marriage of Figaro, focusing on the role of the Countess

This diploma thesis deals with the theme of Mozart's opera The Marriage of Figaro, focusing on the role of the Countess and her contextualisation into the work of W. A. Mozart. The fundamental objective of this thesis is to analyze Mozart's work in the broader context of the composer's life story, the plot of the opera and interpretative concept of the role of Countess by three selected protagonists. A secondary aim of the thesis highlights the importance of Mozart's operas in music history. The introductory part covers the life of Mozart, followed by an overview and analysis of the formation of his operas. The main part is the analysis of The Marriage of Figaro and the Countess role in various concepts. Conclusion of the thesis confirms the hypothesis of Mozart importance for the neo-classical opera.
