The Influence of Railways on Residential Suburbanization in the hinterland of Prague: the example of Černošice The target of the diploma thesis is to explain the long term influence of railway on the feature and development of residential suburbanization within the hinterland of Prague. The influence was assessed on the set of information found in the literature and 3 main factors which the thesis deal with. The first factor is the influence of railway on the development of population in relation to residential suburbanization. The second factor is the verification of the existence of railway suburb in the hinterland of Prague in the case of Černošice. The third factor is the influence of railway on the decision making of chosen mode of transport used for commuting. Qualitative and quantitative data were used in the thesis. The long term changes of population of municipalities in Czechia in connection with the development of the railway network between 1869-2011

The thesis is dealing with the long-term population development of municipalities connected with the railway. The thesis includes numerical expression of increases or decreases of population in municipalities with railway and without railway in individual years and ten-year periods. Geographic Information Systems were used for self-analyses and production of maps with the digitalization of the railway network. There was created a series of maps to show changes number of population in municipalities in sub-periods relative to the current range of the network. The thesis briefly describes the development of the railway network in the Czech Republic. The thesis showed the influence of railway on the population development of settlements, especially in the industrial period.
