Metaphors and New Dictionaries of Contemporary Czech Poetry
STANĚK, Libor
The presented dissertation will focus, through neo-pragmatic and post-analytic interpretation, on the discussed discourse of current domestic lyric poetry which is delimited by the period from the revolutionary year of 1989 to the present day. Based on this theoretical background, which will be primarily explained in the methodological part, we will perceive the mentioned literary territory as a certain playing field with specifically defined rules. The work will try to find within the scope of these rules a certain type of successful metaphors (for example "environmental lyric poetry", "conceptual writing", "millennial poetry") and vocabularies connected to them including the speech strategies initiating the new notion apparatus of current Czech poetry. The concept of metaphor will be treated in this work according to the theory of Donald Davidson who comes with an opinion that metaphor does not have any particular cognitive content but it is merely a language game requiring rather an appreciation than clarification. In connection to this theory, the study will try to evaluate the pragmatic approach of Richard Rorty, particularly his ideas about the randomness of language. These ideas will also be an important method on which basis we will examine the presented poetic material. The main merit of this dissertation is five case studies from the already mentioned time period which by means of theoretical postulates mentioned above focus on the interpretation of our delimited poetic field in which we will try to talk about successful metaphors generating new productive vocabularies maintaining the flow of speech on the topic of current Czech poetry.
Molecular analysis of head and neck carcinomas associated with HPV infection
Glendová, Kristýna ; Staněk, Libor (advisor) ; Tachezy, Ruth (referee)
Head and neck cancers (HNSCC) are highly heterogeneous disease, results from two major carcinogens - tobacco and/or alcohol, or HR HPV infection. This thesis was based on 60 biopsies of head and neck tumours embedded into paraffin after histological verification. HPV infection, including particular types was monitored in different HNSCC regions by multiplex qPCR. Subsequent IHC demonstrated expression of p16INK4A and p53 as a possible diagnostic biomarker. Based on the information, patients with HNSCC can benefit from antiEGFR therapy by Cetuximab, but so far without defined predictors, the analysis of point mutations of Ras gene family (Kras, Nras) and Braf gene was performed. These mutations were monitored as potential predictive biomarkers, in correlation with gender, age and other risk factors. For all statistical processing the Chi-x2 test was used. Key words: Head and neck cancers, biopsy, HPV types, PCR, p16INK4A, p53, molecular predictors, Kras, Nras, Braf
Parishes of the Volyně vicariate and their functioning in the second half of 19th century and first half of the 20th century

Methods of Molecular Biology in Predictive Diagnostics of Her/neu in Stomach Cancer
Důra, Miroslav ; Staněk, Libor (advisor) ; Gemperle, Jakub (referee)
Stomach cancer is a malignant neoplastic disease, which is caused by malignant transformation of the gastric mucosal epithelium. Elderly patients are more frequently affected, the majority of the patients are males. Stomach cancer has some typical features like minor symptomatology and early metastasis founding. Nowadays, a mild decrease of incidence is registered. Treatment of stomach cancer depends on its location and stage. Because of its relative chemo- and radioresistance, surgical resection is the only one potentially curable method, although there is high number of recurrences. An amplification and overexpression of HER2 receptor is detected in approximately 10 - 20 % patients with stomach cancer. This overexpression correlates with worse prognosis of disease. Treatment with a monoclonal antibody named trastuzumab, Herceptin® could significantly elongate their life. Trastuzumab is now widely and successfully used for the treatment of female patients with breast carcinoma. Detection of HER2 amplification is there needed. Treatment with trastuzumab can be useful only when HER2 positivity of tumor is determined. This determination should be made by a reliable test with sufficient sensitivity and specificity. The aim of this work is to summarize the methods of molecular biology that are used in...
Southbohemian shepherds of poetic words
STANĚK, Libor
The presented diploma thesis maps as well as reflects poetic works of seven contemporary South Bohemian poets whose works were significant in 90s and they overlap to current times. To certain extent these poets stand unjustly on the periphery of reader's and critic´s perception of the Czech literature. Namely the poetic works of Vít Erban, Roman Szpuka, František Klišík, Jiří Staněk, Radek Štěpánek, Jan Frolík and David Jan Žák. Besides the analysis of their individual collections the thesis outlines partial poetical universality of mentioned authors. In methodological part of the work the author briefly explains the historical development of hermeneutics. Then he puts this interpretational method and the theory of reception into the confrontational scope with interpretational tendencies in work of Roland Barthese and Susan Sontag. The real picture of paradigm of contemporary literary theory is determined on the resulted premises of these explanatory. The diploma thesis also contains a brief explanation of current Czech poetry. This chapter serves as demarcation of certain literary context in which the collections of the South Bohemian poets emerge.
