Title: Investigation of titanium alloys using neutron diffraction Author: Gergely Németh Department / Institute: Department of Physics of Materials Supervisor of the master thesis: prof. RNDr. Kristián Mathis, Ph.D., DrSc., Department of Physics of Materials Abstract: Titanium grade 2 was treated by multiple passes of the continuous equal- channel angular pressing technique (CONFORM ECAP) and, after each pass, additionally by rotary swaging. The residual strain field in samples processed by only CONFORM ECAP was studied by neutron diffraction strain scanning. In order to elucidate the microscopic background and calculate the related residual stress field, the local microstructure was thoroughly investigated by various experimental techniques. The microstructure and the deformation behavior of the rotary swaged samples was studied by transmission electron microscopy and by in-situ neutron diffraction during compression. The results of the analyses indicated that microstructural gradients were present in the material as the result of the inhomogeneous deformation during the CONFORM ECAP treatment. These gradients were identified as the main reason of the presence of residual stress fields. The distributions of stress fields calculated based on microstructural parameters were in correlation with simulation...

Title: Modeling of phase transformations in shape memory materials Author: Miroslav Frost Department: Mathematical Institute of Charles University Supervisor: Prof. Ing. František Maršík, DrSc., Mathematical Institute of Charles University Abstract: This thesis presents a new thermomechanical three-dimensional con- stitutive model of NiTi-based shape memory alloys. The model was formulated within the framework of generalised standard models and it features a novel form of the dissipation function, which combines contributions stemming from the phase transformation between austenite and martensite and from the reorienta- tion of martensite. The change in the material response associated with the phase transformation between austenite and R-phase as well as material anisotropy and tension-compression asymmetry are also covered. The time-evolutionary problem of a quasistatic mechanical loading of a NiTi body with prescribed temperature evolution was formulated and analyzed within the framework of energetic so- lutions. The corresponding time-incremental minimization problem provided a conceptual algorithm utilized in the numerical treatment. The constitutive mod- el was implemented into the finite element package Abaqus. Several numerical simulations were performed and compared with experiments. Keywords:...
Variační model pro vznik a šíření trhlin při zatížení teplotou
Beščec, Pavel ; Zeman, Jan (advisor) ; Seiner, Hanuš (referee)
Variational approach to brittle fracture based on the Griffith theory appears to be a vital tool for the modelling of initiation and propagation of cracks in brittle materials caused not only by the thermal loading. In the present work we familiarise the reader with the historical background of this scientific discipline, together with the regularised energy functional. The existence of a solution will be proved and the main advantages will be demonstrated on a numerical calculations. Also the difficulties and troubles of a model will be presented in order to deal with them in future work.
Experiments in directional distortional hardening—determination of mechanical properties of the S355J0 grade structural steel
Parma, Slavomír ; Ciocanel, C. ; Seiner, Hanuš ; Hrubý, Zbyněk
In order to carry out comprehensive experiments in the research of directional distortional hardening phenomenon, some basic mechanical properties of S355J0 structural steel are determined. Particularly, attention is payed to the determination of elastic properties of the material, determination of anisotropy of the material induced by the manufacturing technology of specimens, and determination of elasto-plastic behavior of the material. Elastic properties of the material are measured via an ultrasound method, elasto-plastic behavior is analyzed from the tensile and torsional testing. Conclusions of the report are intended for design and evaluation of the comprehensive experiments mentioned.
