Theme of Religion in the Poetry of Miguel de Unamuno

The importance of religion in the work of Miguel de Unamuno is undeniable. This work is an interpretation and analysis of Unamunos' religious thinking in his most important essays and poetry and its' objective is to point out how the concept of Unamunos' religios thinking is reflected in his poetry, and underline differentiations and specificsog his poetic expressions of religious feeling in comparison with his essayistic works. My work is divided in theoretical and practical part: in theoretical part, is the analysis of fundaments of Unamunos' religious concepts (desire for immortality, oposition of mind and emotion, the creative power of belief, God as a garantie of immortality). Attention is also placed upon the breaking point in authors spiritual life, which he lived thrue in the year 1897. Within the merits of description of theological-philosophic background of Unamunos work, a closer attention is given to the inspiration obtained from liberal potestant theology and filosofical opinions of Blaise Pascal and Søren Kierkegaard. Some space is also given to Unamuns posture towards Catholic Church and his critic of this organization, as well as his relationship with the movement of Catholic Modernism. The deshumanization in Federico García Lorca's hand puppet theatre

This thesis analyses theatre work of Federico García Lorca with the particular focus put on his puppet theatre which was created by Lorca from 1919 to his death in 1936. The aim of the thesis is to analyse distinctive features and pecularities of this theatrical form contrasted with traditional theatrical performances, with The Puppet Play of Don Cristóbal being the core work. The thesis also focuses on the tradition of puppet theatre and tries to trace the influence of Lorca's contemporaries on his work, such as Ramón del Valle-Inclán or José Ortega y Gasset. Another focus will be put on his concept of the hand-puppet itself, and that is in the light of the process of the so called dehumanization, in other words - the dehumanization of the drama presented by the puppets. Antonio Muñoz Molina's Novel

The aim of this work is to describe the development of literary works of well-known Spanish writer Antonio Muñoz Molina on the basis of an analysis of his selected novels, which were published in the period up to the year 2000. They are Beatus Ille, El invierno en Lisboa, Beltenebros, El jinete polaco, Ardor guerrero and Plenilunio. In the introductory part of this thesis we briefly summarize the development of the Spanish novel, which occurred between the sixties and the eighties of the 20th century. This theoretical part will be followed up with the analysis of the author's works. Selected novels will be divided into three groups, which also correspond to the three main creative periods through which Muñoz Molina's work has passed. Within each chapter, we first describe the specifics of the set creative periods and then analyze all the novels we have included in that chapter. When distributing the novels to individual units, the chronological order in which they were published will be preserved in order to obtain the most accurate picture of the development that the author's creation has undergone. In the end, we summarize the defined creative periods and set the trends that Antonio Muñoz Molina is constantly returning in his novels.

The Basque Topic in the Works of Pío Baroja

The aim of the present Master`s Degree Thesis is to make an approximation to the Basque theme in the selected works of Pío Baroja. Concretely, it`s close to twenty short stories and the novels of the tetralogy Tierra vasca (Basque country), namely, La casa de Aizgorri, Zalacaín el aventurero, La leyenda de Jaun de Alzate y El mayorazgo de Labraz. First, the San Sebastian writer`s relation with the Basque country is presented, as well as his vision of his fatherland in the history context. Second, the presence of the Basque language - as known as euskera - in the works is described, as in the vocabulary, the onomastic or for example in phrases or in popular songs. Third, we study concrete Basque motives, such as the landscape, the cities and towns, the people, the history or the Basque sorcery and mythology.

Feminism and femininity in the poems of Alfonsina Storni

The work focuses on the work of Argentinean author Alfonsina Storni, especially in connection with the new wave of feminism at the beginning of the 20th century. The chosen topic will be set in a wider context, including social conditions, political situation and society's opinions of female authors at the beginning of the twentieth century in Latin America. All these factors will then be used in a detailed analysis of the author's verses. The aim of the work is to define the style of Alfonsina Storni and, based on the content of her poems, to get an overview of her femininity, her relationship to men and how she succeeded in linking modernism with feminism. To all this I will also add the differences between feminism in the life of Alfonsina Storni and the one of today. All this on the basis of her work. La Lozana andaluza and the Literary Canon

The theme of the dissertation is the important piece of 16th century Spanish prose, Retrato de la Lozana andaluza (Portrait of Lozana: The Lusty Andalusian Woman) by Francisco Delicado. Published anonymously in Venice around the year 1530, it fell into obscurity for the next three hundred years. The only known copy was discovered in the middle of the 19th century in Vienna. Over the next hundred and fifty years this literary curiosity gradually became recognized as an integral part of the Spanish literary canon. Still, the research of La Lozano andaluza continues to feature blank spaces and unresolved issues, and is at the same time characterized by its conflicting nature and the absence of a generally accepted consensus. The introduction of the thesis summarizes and evaluates the state and condition of present-day research and outlines the general problems of the literary canon and its exploration through the concept of a philological field. The aim of the first part of the thesis is to present all verified editing data and to focus on those aspects of the work that have been neglected. The Concept of Utopia in the Work of Alejo Carpentier

The goal of this master's thesis was to focus on the presence of utopia in three works written by the Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier The Lost Steps (Los pasos perdidos), Explosion in a Cathedral (El siglo de las luces) and The Kingdom of this World (El reino de este mundo). It has been defined the characteristics of utopia as a literary genre, which have been subsequently applied to the novels mentioned above. The study devoted to the novel The Lost Steps was the most detailed one. Attention was also paid to writer's perceptions of Latin America through "marvelous real".

Instinct and Society in Emilia Pardo Bazán's novels

(in English) The aim of this work is to analyze the selected aspects of the novel The House of Ulloa and The Mother Nature. The chosen aspects represent the motive of society and the motive of instinct. Thus, the thesis focuses on the description of the situations that arise from these two motives and subsequently tries to analyze them. This process relies on the movement of naturalism and the application of its methods explains the analyzed situations. It takes into account the different concepts of this movement that have been acquired in the country of the author of the novels in some aspects of different values than in the country from which the movement originated. This work first describes the basic characteristics of naturalism, briefly introduces the biographical data of the author of the novels, and then shortly introduces the analyzed novels that serve for a better orientation in the subject. That allows us to reach the core part of this work, namely the description and the analysis of the interactions between the motives of instinct and nature.

The thesis concentrates on two significant works of this period: Nothing from an author Carmen Laforet and Diamond square, written by Mercé Rodoreda. Firstly, the thesis is dedicated to clarification of literary-historical context of Catalan and Spanish literature in which both novels emerge. It also points to historical-political situation as a background of narration of the novels. Secondly it examines female post-war literature with its representative authors from a global view. Further, it turns its attention to biographies of the authors as their novels contain autobiographical features. In the end, it analyses main characters of the novels from women's point of view that are tied up by social conventions and a patriarchal dictate. Rosalía and Bécquer: intimate Romanticism

The thesis analyses the main themes in Rosalía de Castro's poetry (especially in her collections of poems Cantares gallegos, Follas novas and En las orillas del Sar) and Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer's Rimas, aiming to reveal both similarities and differences between them. First it situates the authors in the historical and literary context of the 19th century and goes on to discuss the major events of their lives that may have influenced their oeuvre. Then it offers detailed analyses of the key themes (love, death, loneliness, pain, nature, daydreaming). Each chapter is devoted to one of these topics and is meant to demonstrate the authors' attitudes to them by closely examining particular passages from their poetry. The last part deals with a comparison of the two poet's views.
