Compressive sampling for effective target tracking in a sensor network
Klimeš, Ondřej ; Veselý, Vítězslav (referee) ; Rajmic, Pavel (advisor)
The master's thesis deals with target tracking. For this a decentralized sensor network using distributed particle filter with likelihood consensus is used. This consensus is based on a sparse representation of local likelihood function in a suitable chosen dictionary. In this thesis two dictionaries are compared: the widely used Fourier dictionary and our proposed B-splines. At the same time, thanks to the sparsity of distributed data, it is possible to implement compressed sensing method. The results are compared in terms of tracking error and communication costs. The thesis also contains scripts and functions in MATLAB.
Analysis of the liquid flow with the trajectory of the spatial spiral shape
Klimeš, Ondřej ; Čermák, Libor (referee) ; Fialová, Simona (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the expression of differential operators gradient, divergence, curl and Laplace operator in orthogonal curvilinear coordinates. The formulas for cylindrical coordinate system are derived. Further, liquid flow with a trajectory of spatial spiral shape is analyzed, for which the Navier-Stokes equations are derived. Finally, three examples of potential flow in the plane are solved in the areas described by polar and elliptical coordinates. The calculation is done numerically by the final differences method in MATLAB.
Anti-slavery debate during the American Revolution
KLIMEŠ, Ondřej
By analysis of political pamphlets and essays, hereby presented undergraduate thesis aims to reconstruct the anti-slavery debate that took place in Britain and her North American colonies in the years preceding the American Revolution. After outlining the sources of the British anti-slavery thought of the 18th century follows an analysis of four petitions of black slaves who petitioned for their own freedom in Massachusetts between the years 1773 and 1777. Next three chapters analyse three texts from three important anti-slavery activists of their day. Firstly, a pamphlet from 1773 named An Address to the Inhabitants of the British Settlements, on the Slavery of the Negroes in America by American physician and politician from Philadelphia Benjamin Rush. Secondly, a pamphlet published in 1774 called Thoughts Upon Slavery by the founder of the methodist movement John Wesley. And lastly, an essay from the year 1775 African Slavery in America, which has for a long time been incorrectly attributed to Thomas Paine but was penned by a congregational pastor and theologian from Rhode Island Samuel Hopkins. Each of the three analyses is introduced by a biographical passage based mainly on published personal correspondence, journals and diaries and memoirs of the respective authors as well as various biographies. Biographical passages pursue the development of personal anti-slavery thought of chosen authors. The conclusion of the thesis compares the results of the analyses of the pamphlets.

Charter 08 and the Status of Public Intellectuals in Contemporary People's Republic of China
Košková, Zuzana ; Klimeš, Ondřej (advisor) ; Lomová, Olga (referee)
CHARTER 08 AND THE STATUS OF PUBLIC INTELLECTUALS IN MODERN PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA ABSTRACT Bachelor Thesis "Charter 08 and the Status of Public Intellectuals in Modern People's Republic of China" is desribing contemporary Chinese dissent associated with manifesto Charter (2008) as public intelectualls who are standing for democratic and liberal values. The thesis is describing historic and social development of Chinese intellectuals stressing their relationship to the system and status of public intellectuals. The thesis describes activities of public intellectuals and ilustrates their status on examples of selected signatories of Charter 08. Particular attention is paid to Liu Xiaobo the main author of the Charter 08. Despite the fact that China is classified as an authoritarian regime that does not allow any opposition, it seems that public intellectuals in China are able to organize themselves and be active in public. This contradicts the concept of vanishing of public intellectuals in postmodern society. The thesis also deals with Charter 77, a manifesto of the Czechoslovak dissidents who inspired the authors of the Chinese Charter. The comparison shows that though both documents were created in a socially and historically distant conditions, both documents and historical situations have many...
Vietnamese Political Power, Authority and Legitimacy in the Context of Emulation Movements
Homutová, Lada ; Buben, Radek (advisor) ; Klimeš, Ondřej (referee) ; Strašáková, Mária (referee)
This dissertation thesis centres on the stability and instability of the Vietnamese communist regime, and how to understand this topic today. This problem was explored with the help of an imported political tool, which Vietnam adopted from the USSR, through China, in the late 1940s, and which experienced a revival in modern economically liberalised Vietnam: emulation movements. This thesis assumed that historic and current emulation movements were designed to control, but also to bring legitimacy or a 'legitimacy effect' (and the related stability), through their different functions. It asked how they succeeded in this task comparatively, in their historic and current incarnations. The framework of functions of emulation movements in Vietnam combined with the theoretical concepts of David Beetham, Max Weber and Robert Lamb served as basic theoretical tenets. The thesis concluded that emulation indeed helped create foundational regime legitimacy and offered possible links to a new communist doctrine. The thesis showed that a predominance of successful legitimization, combined with legitimacy effect and Ho Chi Minh's charisma, helped stabilize the DRV regime, especially until 1954. The analysis of present-day emulation movements, however, showed the weakness of the VCP as it struggles to fulfil the...
