The level of basic mathematical skills of aspirants studying geography of the bachelor degree
Hrubá, Kateřina ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Rubešová, Jana (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with problems of mathematical skills. Unlike previous research carried out in Czech education, this diploma thesis focuses on university students. Specifically, the focus is on aspirants of the bachelor degree studying geography at the Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague. The main aim of this work is to determine the mathematical skills, with which students have the greatest problems, if these problematical skills change over time, whether they are problematic independently of the group of the students or each student group has problems with other mathematical skills. In order to meet the goals the credit tests of mathematical geography were used. Because this type of test is not commonly used to determine the level of mathematical skills, it was necessary to develop an own assessment methodology. In total, 1920 credit tests were analyzed from the six academic years 2011/2012 to 2016/2017. The results show that the most problematic mathematical skills are "unit transfers", "using the appropriate formula in the correct form" and "calculating the angles". GeKa + FGG and UZ students also have problems with "formulating a verbal answer or reasoning". All studied study fields did together the smallest proportion of mistakes in mathematical skill "expression the...
Interactive application for teaching the topic of the Earth as a planet

Interactive application for teaching the topic of the Earth as a planet Abstract The thesis is focused on the creation of an interactive application for teaching the topic of the Earth as a planet at secondary schools. The theoretical part generally deals with digital technologies for teaching, educational applications and pedagogical-psychological aspects of the subject. The topic was defined and analyzed using curriculum documents, textbooks and school atlases. Based on the analysis, partial topics were selected and turned into an application that covers separate learning objects. 8 learning objects were created ("Distances and dimensions", "Earth's orbit", "Seasons", "Solar time", "Moon phases", "Solar and Lunar eclipses", "Orbiting around the barycenter", "Tidal phenomena") and 4 learning objects were taken ("Solar System", "Earth's shape - geoid", "Time zones", "Future eclipses"). Each learning object has been provided with its theoretical introduction and methodological questions and tasks. The final educational application will be available on the Internet as a web application, without the need for installation. Conception of PG issue in the contemporary Czech textbook for higher classes of secondary grammar schools and high schools: Status and suggestions to improve
Lukášová, Vendula ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Matoušková, Milada (referee)
In life each of us meets with textbook, although it does not always have to be quiality textbook. For evaluation the quality of textbooks used a rating system that can be undertaken. This work deals with the evaluation of physical geography textbooks for grammar schools. The goal is to determine what shape the concept of physical geography in textbooks and propose solutions to improve the situation. The work examines fourteen contemporary czech books used in teaching (textbooks, summaries for graduation). For ratings are used formal methods such educational research as measuring text difficulty or measuring didactic structure. The work is complemented by comparing the textbooks from different countries (India, USA) with Czech textbooks. Based on the results, it is possible to determine what textbook is suitable for teaching physical geography and how it would look perfect textbook. This work could bring geography teachers some advice on choosing textbooks. Key words: evaluation textbook, physical geography, textbook for grammar school
The status and content equipment of physical geography in contemporary Czech geography textbooks for elementary schools and lower grammar schools
Šťovíčková, Irena ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Hanus, Martin (referee)
This thesis evaluates the condition and status of physical geography in terms of quantity and quality of content, graphics and didactic in contemporary Czech textbooks for primary schools and lower grammar schools. To address the topic, specific textbook categories were selected and evaluated. We examined the scope and extent of sub-disciplines of physical geography, the number of didactic exercises, curricular links and theme context, graphic attachments and the accuracy of the content and terminology in the particular categories. Based on the evaluated data, it is possible to assess the rank of the examined textbooks in terms of the selected categories. The data was processed according the selected criteria and simple descriptive statistics. In terms of educational facilities have been positively evaluated by textbook publishers Fraus (Red, J. et al., 2007, 2009 ), while in terms of concepts that were textbook publishers Prodos (Voženílek V., Demek J. 2007, 2013) . The results of this thesis allow assessing the textbooks from different perspectives. The solution, presented in this thesis, will provide teachers with an overview of standing of different categories in given textbook. This could help the teachers to decide, which textbook fits the particular concept of their classes and teaching. Key...
Methodology approaches to worksheets design for field teaching of geomorphology
Lorencová, Markéta ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Romportl, Dušan (referee)
Methodological approaches to worksheets designed for field teaching of geomorphology Abstract The purpose of this work was to determine whether there are rules and relations when it comes to the methodological approaches to worksheets created for fieldwork in natural sciences. Another object was to analyze the potential of Prague for geomorphological fieldwork. 101 worksheets from natural sciences were analyzed in various categories, based on the research of literature. The data was processed even further with the use of statistics. Interesting geomorphological sights in Prague and their potential for fieldwork were defined after the research of scientific literature. The analysis has shown that those not designed for the use during fieldwork were more diverse than those designed for the use during fieldwork. Worksheets used during fieldwork were found to be more homogenic from the perspective of length, number of questions and the participation of components used in the worksheet. Several locations suitable for geomorphological...
Geomorphilogy in ancient Greece and Rome
Leglerová, Anna ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Šefrna, Luděk (referee)
Ancient Greece in the 7th century BC was important for the creation of philosophy and development of science. Although geomorphology didn't exist as an independent science in this time, there were the first attempts to explain and describe geomorphologic processes and landforms. The goal of this bachelor thesis is to aggregate descriptions and explanations of these phenomena from works of ancient Greek and Roman philosophers, historians and other authors. The main purpose is to point out correct explanations and to explain the cause of these which are wrong. Main phenomena, which were scholars focused on, were earthquakes, volcanism and the annual flood on the Nile River. Greeks and Romans believed that the Earth's relief is changing all the time. Relief landforms were used during campaigns, in agriculture and for the foundation of cities. The scholars were able to critically analyse theories of their ancestors. Despite the fact that some of the explanations were different from these of today, it shows us that science in ancient Greece and Rome is an important period for development of geomorphology and science in general. The morphology and activity of selected avalanche paths in the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. and the Králický Sněžník Mts.
Krause, David ; Křížek, Marek (advisor) ; Létal, Aleš (referee)
The occurrence of avalanche paths is usually frequent in alpine environment, but it is also present in mid-mountains such as the High Sudetes. The submitted master thesis is focused on avalanche paths in the Eastern High Sudetes. The morphometric analysis of 8 paths was accomplished to determine their characteristics and comparison with statistical verification. The dendrogeomorphological analysis and further geomorphological mapping was performed in 2 selected paths (Sněžná kotlina and Králický Sněžník) to cover their avalanche activity frequency and to find relationship between their activity and morphology. The results of this study show that there is a strong difference between two groups of avalanche paths in the Eastern High Sudetes. The Sněžná kotlina and The Králický Sněžník avalanche paths are longer and narrower than the other paths. They also have higher elevation difference. The comparison of these two paths performed by dendrogeomorphology indicates higher avalanche activity frequency in the Sněžná kotlina path, which was strengthened after strong avalanche event in 2004. It is assumed that the Sněžná kotlina path contains advanced avalanche landform, which is a long gully, probably also affected by debris- flows in the past. On the other hand the Králický Sněžník path is rather less...
