Parliamentary representation in the Czech Republic: deputies and senators in a time of crisis of representative democracy and party government

The Czech party system underwent significant reconfiguration in the second decade of the 21st century. The presented research focuses on MPs (deputies) and senators navigating this dynamic environment, specifically examining their perception of the parliamentary mandate. The text describes the representatives' relationships with citizens, parties, and constituencies, and explores changes in these relationships from a long-term perspective. Special attention is given to legislators from new parliamentary groups, especially those who define themselves against the elites and the party government model. These representatives distinguish themselves by emphasising a direct connection with the people and the return of power from the elites to the people, suggesting a different understanding of their mandate. The core of the research covers the parliamentary election period from 2017 to 2021, when half of the Chamber of Deputies consisted of populist movements. Additionally, the research takes into account other political developments and previous studies on Czech parliamentary representatives and debates concerning the crisis of representative democracy. Occupation as a prerequisite for local politics

In ideal case during elections, we are deciding based on our knowledge of political subjects, their candidates and quality of proposed solutions. But what happens when voters seem to have no information? Based on what are they deciding? In this bachelor thesis I'm focusing on Concept of representation by Hanna Pitkin and her takes on descriptive characteristics of candidates, to be more specific occupation of candidates and its relation to uninformed voters. In this thesis I'm using quantitative methods to find the answers.

Parliament institute

The aim of this thesis is an analysis of activities of the Parliamentary Institute (PI) which serves as an expert base for the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The Parliamentary Institute resolves the tasks of scientific, informative and educational nature for the Chamber of Deputies as well as the Senate. The PI originated from an initiative of deputies who lacked apolitical and unbiased information of a professional nature in the early 1990s. Nevertheless, the need for objective information persists to this day. The importance of the PI thus lies primarily in the fact that it enables legislators to create good quality laws and control the executive by providing them with the specific unbiased information. The text focuses on the establishment, development, structure, functions and outputs of the institute.

Security Policy in Europe from the Czechoslovak Point of View, 1924-1925

This bachelor thesis deals with the development and analyses security policy in Europe in the years 1924 - 1925 afterwards and its reflection in Czechoslovakia. The author primarily focus on contemporary acceptance of the results of the conference in Locarno. During the research, which has the ambition to contribute to the current stage of research of the issue, I have used both editions of sources and archive materials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The aim is not only to chart a reflection of the Locarno treaty system in Czechoslovakia, but also to evaluate the implications of this change in the European security architecture to foreign policy and security status of Czechoslovakia.
