Hořánek, Vojtěch ; Tesař, Jakub (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Martin (referee)
The thesis is an analysis of colonial discourse in the interwar Czechoslovakia. Articles from daily press "Venkov" and "Národní Listy" are chosen for the analysis. The procedure is based on Norman Fairclough`s approach, semiotic analysis is executed according to recontextualization analysis of Theo van Leeuwen. The colonialism is defined as a historical structure in accordance with Robert Cox`s theory. To distinguish among those who profited from colonialism and those who did not are used terms "centre" and "periphery". As a result, there is a distinguishing between two main discourses: discourse of superiority and organisational discourse. Part of the discourse of superiority are representation of periphery which depict them at the lower level than centre. Organisational discourse are representations centre politics within colonies and their legitimisations. The colonialism is legitimized mainly through a positive outcome on both centre and periphery. Then, through an authorisation of institutions and agreements. There is an oppositional discourse within the colonial one. It is a critique of colonialism at the system level and a representation of superiority discourse, instead of its presence. Then, the existence of organisational discourse without the superiority one.
