Analysis of Selected Climatological Time Series
Kraitz, Petr ; Helman, Karel (advisor) ; Šimpach, Ondřej (referee)
Dissertation is focused on analysis of time series of monthly mean temperatures of seven meteorological stations between years 1960 to 2015. With the use of selected statistical methods time series are modelled in moving ten year long intervals and a forecast of elevenths year is constructed. The goal of this dissertation is to compare the success of different methods/models predictions of values for one year period, based on the data from last 10 years.
Analysis of monthly time series of temperatures at chosen stations in Europe
Henkrichová, Jana ; Helman, Karel (advisor) ; Řezanková, Hana (referee)
The bachelor thesis is focused on the analysis of monthly time series of temperatures at nine meteorological stations in Europe between the years of 1951 and 2015. The data were obtained from the database of The European Climate Assessment & Dataset. The geographical position data of chosen stations consist of points in an imaginary grid throughout Europe. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to compare the development of time series via basic characteristics, to explore the differences due to geographical position and to gain some information about the development of temperature in time via statistical methods. The main object of interest is the location of Praha - Klementinum. Some additional goals are testing the measure of independence of temperatures on the geographical latitude, verifying the continental influence on the climate and checking the shapes of distributions of temperature time series.
Population viability analysis of endangered species in Czech Republic
Šťastná, Andrea ; Helman, Karel (advisor) ; Bašta, Milan (referee)
Diploma thesis analyzes the viability of the selected species populations in the Czech Republic. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part contains a stochastic model simulating possible scenarios of the Eurasian lynx population size in the Czech Republic. For this model program Vortex was used. The second part is focused on Time series analysis of the Grey Partridge and the Common Kingfisher population, where data was obtained from the Czech Society for Ornithology. This analysis aims on identification of factors that may affect the viability of the two bird species.
Analysis of debt development in the Czech Republic
Krýslová, Petra ; Bašta, Milan (advisor) ; Helman, Karel (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze the development of the total volume of debt in the Czech Republic and the analysis separately for the household sector and non-financial corporations. From economic theoretical assumptions it can be concluded that there is a correlation between the amount of loans and GDP development or between credit and economic cycle. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part made up of chapters 1 to 4, describes the theory used further in the text. The second part, Chapter 5, describes the specific time series used in the thesis, i.e. The time series of the volume of debt for the Czech Republic, GDP and interest rates. Interest rates and the volume of debt are further broken down by maturity and also by two selected sectors. The last part, Chapter 6, focusing on co-integration analysis, ADL and error correction models, attempts to capture short-term and long-term relationships between the time series.
Female immigrants in contemporary American fiction of ethnic women writers
Helman, Karel ; Ulmanová, Hana (advisor) ; Arbeit, Marcel (referee) ; Procházka, Martin (referee)
The purpose of this dissertation project titled Fe male Immigrants in Contemporary American Fiction of Ethnic Women Writers is to present and interpret complex fictional portrayals of "new" women immigrants. Their selection is based on the exclusive reading of seminal works of ten minority female authors, published between the years 1989 and 2004. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Analysis of time series of production of municipal waste in EU
Lupačová, Klára ; Helman, Karel (advisor) ; Arltová, Markéta (referee)
The bachelor thesis is focused on analyzing time series of production of municipal waste in EU during the period from 1995 to 2014. Data are from public databases Eurostat. The objective of thesis is to examine development of time series of production of municipal waste in EU. Another aim of thesis is to determine whether it will be recycled by 2020 at least 50 % of municipal waste. This thesis consist of two pars. The (theoretical).first part is devoted to the description of the statisticla methods and second (practical) part is dedicated to the analysis of time series.
Modelling and forecasting seasonal time series
Jantoš, Milan ; Bašta, Milan (advisor) ; Helman, Karel (referee)
In this Master Thesis there are summarized basic methods for modelling time series, such as linear regression with seasonal dummy variables, exponential smoothing and SARIMA processes. The thesis is aimed on modelling and forecasting seasonal time series using these methods. Goals of the Thesis are to introduce and compare these methods using a set of 2184 seasonal time series followed by evaluation their prediction abilities. The main benefit of this Master Thesis is understanding of different aspects of forecasting time series and empirical verification of advantages and disadvantages these methods in field of creating predictions.
Sentiment Analysis of Customer Reviews
Hrabák, Jan ; Helman, Karel (advisor) ; Malá, Ivana (referee)
This thesis is focused on sentiment analysis of unstructured text and its practical application on the real data downloaded from website Yelp.com The objectives of the theoretical part of this thesis is to sum up the information related to history, methods and possible applications of sentiment analysis. A reader is acquainted with important terms and processes of sentiment analysis. Theoretical part is focused on Naive Bayes classifier, that will be used in practical part of this thesis. In practical part there is detailed description of data set, construction and testing of model. At the end there are presented pros and cons of the chosen model and described some possibilities of its usage.
Criminality in regions of the Czech Republic in dependence on their economic level
Buchal, Matěj ; Fischer, Jakub (advisor) ; Helman, Karel (referee)
The bachelor thesis is based on empirical research of criminality in the Czech Republic. The object is to describe incidence of criminal offences in regions of the Czech Republic in 2014, to discover dependence of criminality on various socioeconomic factors by using regression and correlation analysis and to estimate future development of number of criminal offences. In the last part there is study of influence of the former president Vaclav Klaus amnesty on development of criminality in 2013 and 2014.
An analysis of colorectal cancer occurrence in the Czech Republic
Jechová, Zuzana ; Helman, Karel (advisor) ; Langhamrová, Jitka (referee)
The aim of this bachelor's thesis is an analysis of colorectal cancer occurrence in the Czech Republic between 1977 and 2013 and to provide the reader the collection, classification and sources of cancer data. This thesis deals with number of new cases and deaths in each year and their age and sex structure. It also research the impact of deaths from these diseases on life expectancy using single decrement abridged life tables. Finally, trying to predict the value of basic indicators in 2018 thought trend functions and exponential smoothing. The analysis shows that the increase in the number of new cases and deaths have recently begun to stagnate or fall slightly. Disease burded on older people are more men than women. In the case of suppression of deaths from these diseases it will elongate life expectancy in a matter of months. The predictions shows that the number of new cases and deaths will decrease annualy. Based on the data it would be possible to plan specific focus of population screening and structure of health care spending in this area in the next few years.
