Westernization of Pop Culture in China - "China's Got Talent"

This master thesis deals with the phenomenon of Westernization of pop culture in mainland China on the example of the Chinese adapted version of the Talent Show China's Got Talent. (CHGT) In its theoretical part it outlines the overall globalizing and Westernizing tendencies and sets a theoretical framework of the main terminology of media studies. The research goal of the thesis was to analyze the audience reception of CHGT in China and their ideas and views on pop culture The research goal is included in the broader context of cultural imperialism theories and the specifics of talent and reality shows are elaborated. Furthermore a historical overview of the evolution of pop culture in mainland China is provided. In the practical part, the applied methodological approaches and their potential strengths and weaknesses are described. A basic thematic analysis of certain selected social media like Weibo, QQ and Baidu was conducted. The two versions of the adapted Got Talent format were compared as far as the formal features are concerned, the British version of Britain's Got Talent and the Chinese adaptation China's Got Talent. Elements of the Grotesque in the Novels of Toni Morrison

The aim of my bachelor thesis is to analyze the elements of the grotesque in the novels of Toni Morrison. The analyzed literature includes Morrison's most popular novels Sula, Beloved, and The Bluest Eye. The thesis begins with an introduction where the genre of grotesque writing is defined and specified, and its literary origins are traced; then Morrison's novels are addressed (their function, effect and role). Furthermore grotesque elements are analyzed in terms of concrete representations of grotesque marked bodies. The dominant Western white standard of beauty is interpreted in contrast to the Afro-American one. In addition the author's possible choice of the concrete representations of the grotesque is considered. The grotesque genre is dealt with in respect to the specifics of Afro-American writing of Toni Morrison.

The bachelor thesis "The communication strategies of the Prague State Opera House between the years 2010/2011 deals with the advertising tools by which this institution presents itself to the public. This topic is brought into a larger context of the field of art marketing and its current situation in our country and abroad. It deals with the specific features of the "theatre"market and the narrow target audience. It encompasses an analysis of the negative and positive aspects of the applied advertising techniques and comes up with new solutions with regard to the new trends in communication. The Prague State Opera house is an important part of the cultural riches of the Czech Republic and its present unstable situation is a result of the current bad positioning and the global cultural situation of today's modern society. The fundamental element of this dissertation is the description and analysis of the crisis management of the State Opera Prague and the description of its subsequent union with the National Theatre. The dissertation furthermore pinpoints the funding of cultural institutions in Czech Republic and the growing trend to achieve financial self sufficiency.
