Chlum, Michael ; Kloudová, Věra (advisor) ; Winter, Astrid (referee)
The theoretical-empirical thesis focuses on the translation of cultural specificity, using the work of the German writer Thomas Brussig. The primary source chosen is the author's novel Am kürzeren Ende der Sonnenallee, set in the GDR, as well as its Czech translation, Na kratším konci ulice, by translator Jana Zoubková. Incorporating translatological, socio-cultural, historical, linguistic and literary aspects, the theoretical section summarizes the relevant knowledge about cultural specificity and its translation, life in the GDR, socialist Czechoslovakia, as well as the author himself and his work. The main subject of the empirical part, which includes a literary analysis of the novel, is a translatological analysis, the focus of which is the translation of culture-specific items. The aim of the thesis is, among other things, to find out how cultural and historical specificity are translated between two cultures with a similar past. Keywords: cultural specificity, cultural and historical specificity, culture-specific items, translatological analysis, Ostalgie, Wendeliteratur, Thomas Brussig, German Democratic Republic, Czechoslovak Socialist Republic
