On puppet and non-puppet theatre

This bachelor thesis examins the form of nowadays puppets in the theatre of non-physical acting. This thesis are based on Czech and Polish theatre theory and work foremost with Czech terms jevištní postava, dramatická osoba and integrovaný herecký komponent loutkového divadla. For this bachelor thesis is essential the diference between figurative and non-figurative puppet theatre, based on the definition of prof. Jaroslav Etlík. An initial impetus for its creation was an attend on colloquium at theatre parade Přelet nad loutkářským hnízdem, article from 1999 Loutkář (Puppeteer) magazine called Hledání souvislostí: Co je to loutka? and general confusion on the item.

Handa Gote Research & Development: A new theatre synthesis

In this bachelor thesis Handa Gote Research & Development: New synthetis in
theatre I am focusing on topic, how theatre group Handa Gote Research &
Development uses components of theatre to create new type of synthetic work.
Thesis is devoted to three components: auditive, visual and text. I am describing
these three components in three independent chapters. This desription is based on
my thorough research and analysis of performances and video records of
performances by Handa Gote. Before this main research is prefixed chapter, which is
dealing with perception of synthesis in theatre from idea of Gesmatkunstwerk,
folowing by the work by three important czech theatrologists and Aesthetics Otakar
Hostinský, Otakar Zich and Jan Mukařovský. I am also presenting one of the newest
theories, theory of Postdramatic theatre. As a conclusion, I am summarizing
outcomes of my analysis and trying to specify, what is new about theatre synthesis

Signs, Style and Karel Čapek 's Dramas

163 Abstract The paper is concerned with Karel Čapek's dramas, Loupežník, R.U.R., Věc Makropulos, Bílá nemoc and Matka. It analyzes systematically the structure of dramas, especially from the semiotic and stylistic point of view. Both disciplines are considered in quite a broad sense, hence at first we examined their basic characteristics, and then clarified how Čapek's dramas actually relate with them. First of all, we focused on the meaning and the function of sign and enquired specific features of a dramatic text. Furthermore, we dealt with dramatic elements, in particular with time, space, dramatic characters, and with each element, we examined its characteristics and functions in connection both with drama and theater. We presented main and significant theories and methods of scholars. Regarding the analysis of K. Čapek's dramas from the semiotic point of view, we clarified characteristics and syntactic structure of dramatic characters in connection with the theory of actants. Such syntactic structure makes it possible to clarify and understand the construction of a narrative and the function of characters. Ladislav Chudík's output in context of Czech and Slovak dramatic arts

The thesis titled Ladislav Chudík's Output in Context of Czech and Slovak Dramatic Arts is dedicated to the work of one of the best Slovak actors, whose output was a golden thread running through more than a half of the twentieth century. There is not another actor in the history of Czech and Slovak professional theatre and film during the common Czechoslovak Republic whose personality would be characterized by the meaning of the word "Czechoslovak" to such extent but Ladislav Chudík (born in 1924). It specifies his position of the Slovak actor in various kinds of dramatic arts during his fifty-five-year activity within the development of the Czech and Slovak culture and art. He entered the Slovak National Theatre in 1944 after the period of maturation, when the Slovak National Theatre was established and professionalized by Czech theatre people. This was only twelve years after the establishment of an independent Slovak Drama Company. But there was still a supervision of Czech theatre directors at his beginnings on a stage. Drahoš Želenský and Josef Budský especially had a great influence on the shaping of Chudík's acting at the dawn of his career. Healthy schizophrenia. Influences of Brechtian epic theatre and alienation effect in Czech modern acting

The work, Healthy Schizophrenia, Influences of Brechtian Epic Theatre and the Alienation Effect in modern Czech Acting, is divided into two parts. The first section is devoted to acting approaches in Brechtian epic theatre. It is focused on a breakthrough period in Brecht's experimentation, to which belong the stagings of the play Man is Man in 1931, an adaptation of Gorky's The Mother in 1932 and Lehrstücks. This part of the examination is based theoretically on studies of the Street Scene, Alienation Effectsin Chinese Acting, and Notes to the Opera, Rise and Fall of the City of Mahogany. The work also takes into account Brecht's inspirations, including the acting of Mej Lan-fang and American slapstick. The author considers these basic acting principles to be the basis of epic acting: simultaneity of play spaces; description of an event; presentation of and self-presentation of characters; actors presenting character in the third person; speaking directly to public; the actor's attitude as spectator; the principles of quotation and demonstration (of an event, action or of a style); admission of authorship; fragmentary and non-continuous representation of character; the principle of play (playing at a thing); didactics; representation of one's opinions; using an alienation effect; stepping out of a role....

Collection maintanance software

Goal of the thesis is to implement a catalogue tool for collection (with special focus on coin collections) maintenance. The program allows to compare user's collections with model collections stored in the database and export lists of missing items. In addition to that it also contains functions designed to print and export various reports summarizing stored collections and items. The program communicates with remote database which contains data of registered users accessing it through unique login name.

Dramatic work of Josef Tejkl

This Bachelor thesis is devoted to the work of Josef Tejkl (1952/2009), playwright, director, novelist and artist, particularly to his dramatic activity. In an attempt to give a comprehensive survey of the dramatist‘s works not published up to now, I am endeavouring to analyse Tejkl‘s dramatic work viewed through literary Baroque style. In the works of Tejkl Baroque trends can be clearly seen. I want to point out my own thesis, which is that Baroque themes determine the understanding of Josef Tejkl‘s almost whole output. This Bachelor treatise also aims at helping the complete cataloguing of all works of this author in the hope that in future at least a part of Tejkl‘s dramatic output will find its publisher.

Preconditions of Japanese Scenity

PhD thesis entitled Preconditions of Japanese Scenicity is based on the study of the perception of space and time by Japanese, and the related concept of ?interspace? or ?betweenness? called ma (which is the combination of space and time); on this basis it attempts to explain reasons of durability of the Japanese theatre traditions throughout history ? from medieval noh theatre through commons? kabuki theater to contemporary theatre using traditional movement, represented today by the troupe of director Tadashi Suzuki. This troupe connects acting with actors? life itself and especially with traditional Japanese culture. In my research I rely on ?scenologic? conception and seek resources of Japanese theatre tradition in aesthetic concepts of Japanese art (mono no aware, wabi-sabi and yugen), in rituals associated with Japanese religion (Shinto, Japanese forms of Buddhism etc.), but also in everyday life in Japan, which is strongly influenced by traditions. Special attention is paid to the traditional Japanese house as a living space which seems to be an important source of Japanese ?scenic sense?; the concept of kotodama or ?word spirit/soul? and the development of traditional Japanese poetry are explained as well in order to introduce Japanese understanding of ?words in space?, which is very closed to ?feeling the space?. In Search of an Approach for Studying Acting

In my doctoral thesis I am trying to find an answer to the question: How the studies at the Dramatic theatre department of Academy of Performing arts can prepare future graduates to their professional life. The majority of examples described in my thesis is comming from the experience I've gained with my last graduate class. I am trying to illustrate why and what changes I've decided to made, using also my former experiences. The intention of my thesis is to present certain research, I am not willing to create new coherent method, where the acting candidates would serve as some kind of model human being. I admit that at certain point I am balancing at a very fine line of discretion But I do belive that my students and colegues would be able to excuse my possible inexactitudes.
