Miocene-Pliocene age of cave Snežna Jama na Raduhi, Southern Alps, Slovenia
Mihevc, A. ; Horáček, I. ; Pruner, Petr ; Zupan Hajna, N. ; Čermák, Stanislav ; Wagner, Jan ; Bosák, Pavel
Snežna jama cave is 1,600 m long horizontal cave at about 1,500 m a.s.l. in Raduha Massif (Kamnik-Savinja Alps) rich in cave deposits (both allogenic sediments and massive flowstones). The cave size, shape and deposits show (1) formation of the cave in different conditions, and (2) its substantial age. A 4.8 m deep pit was excavated in allogenic sediments. Samples were taken both for palaeomagnetic analysis and palaeontological screening. Sediments consist of rhythmically arranged layers deposited in phreatic conditions. Fragments of rodent teeth and a well-preserved molar of genus Baranomys were identified. Fossil remains indicate mammalian zone MN 16 and MN 14. A high-resolution palaeomagnetic analysis revealed total of 3 principal normal polarized and 2 principal reverse polarized magnetozones. If we accept the palaeontologic calibration, the deposition took place within Gauss and Gilbert chrons, from about 2.6 to more than 5 Ma. Long sedimentation period is in concordance with the cave rocky relief that shows phreatic and epiphreatic morphology and predates the main uplift of the area for about 900 m.
Collembola, Protura and Pauropoda in a riparian forest - mesic forest
Rusek, Josef ; Reithofer, D. ; Schmid, S. ; Truxa, Ch. ; Weber, J. ; Wilde, U.
Communities of soil Collembola, Protura and Pauropoda were studied in a riparian forest - mesic forest ecotone in the Stromovka Park in the inundation zone of the Vltava River in České Budějovice, South Bohemia, Czech Republic. Ten soil samples, each 10 cm.sup.2./sup. and 5 cm deep, were taken on April 3rd, 2000 in each of five parallel rows from the swampy part without water (row I). Row II was 1 m to the east from row I in a dense .i.Pragmites communis./i. uderstory of the .i.Populus canadensis, Quercus robus./i. dominated riparian forest. Row III was 5 m to the east with the same understory composition, and IV was 10 m further to the east with less dense .i.Phragmites./i. understory growth mixed with grasses and .i.Geranium silvaticum./i. and other understory herbs and poplar and oak litter on the soil surface. Row V was 5 m from row IV in a mesic forest with .i.Quercus robur, Betula alba./i. trees and grass with mosses in understory.
Nová klasifikace životních forem Collembola a Protura
Rusek, Josef
A new classification of Collembola and Protura life forms is proposed. Each eco-morphological life form group is morphologically and ecologically characterized, allowing Collembola to be classified into two main groups: A - atmobionts, and B - edaphobionts. Group A comprises four subgroups: a) macrophytobionts, b) microphytobionts, c) xylobionts, and d) neustons. Group B is divided into three subgroups: a) epigeonts, b) hemiedaphobionts, and c) euedaphobionts. Hemiedaphobionts comprise two subclasses according to their size and occurrence in the soil profile. Euedaphobionts are divided into three classes (large, medium, small) and six subclasses according to presence or reduction of the furca (with furca versus furca missing or reduced). Protura belong to the medium and small size subclasses of euedaphobionts. Former life form systems of Collembola are discussed. The proposed system facilitates the use of Collembola in a more comprehensive way for ecological studies.
Daily and weekly changes of the incidence of acute myocardial infarction
Sitar, J. ; Střeštík, Jaroslav
The authors deal with daily and weekly changes of the incidence of acute myocardial infarctions during 1999-2002 in the town of Brno. The authors have searched for possible differences between this data set and the similar set of infarctions during 1982-1986 from the whole Czech Republic.
Failure wave simulation after the Pastviny dam break
Brych, Karel ; Dittrt, František
This task deals with an extremely unsteady flow both in the channel and in the flood-plain. Similar solutions of such sudden wave are often unstable and require accurate treatment of boundary conditions and input data. One-dimensional model HEC-RAS was used. Results were evaluated in the ArcView environment.
Složení sedimentů, Al-Si gelů a precipitátů vázaných na výskyt elementálního Al, Si, Fe z monitorovacích vrtů u jímacího území Podluží
Ďurďová, Libuše
Occurrence of increased sulphate concentration in groundwater of the Quaternary sediments in the floodplane of the Morava river watershed is related to many specific features in hydrogeology, hydrochemistry, microbiology, geochemistry, exploitation of water resources, climatic conditions, and technical equipment of boreholes. One of the concsequences is genesis of 2-4 m thick layer of sediments at the bottom of moitoring boreholes Vis with mineral precipitates, sludge, Al and Si gelatines, precipitates of elemental forms of Al, Si and Fe. There were found also colloids of FeS2 composition and minerals goethite, magnetite, lepidocrocite, pyrite, greygite under extreme oxido-redox conditions.
Current state of physico-geographical investigations in the Institute of Geonics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic
Kirchner, Karel
Physico-geographical investigations in the framework of the Institute of Geonics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic are carried out in the Department of Environmental Geography in the Brno Branch. Geonics was defined as a science which studies the substance of processes occurring in the Earth crust due to anthropogenic activities including environmental impacts. Activities of the Brno Branch are concentrated on an evaluation of human impact on landscape and a study of the interactions between nature and society. The investigation in the Brno Branch has the direct link to the regional geography, that frequent trend of the Czech regional geographical research is solution of environmental problems in regions. Physical geographers solve research tasks in the framework of environmental geography. Collaboration between physical and human geographers is a basic concept for research projects in the Brno Branch. In the last 10 years, physico-geographical investigation has concentrated to the partial research directions: - geomorphological investigations, - climatic hydrological investigations, - biogeographical and geoecological investigations.
Some aspect of small moravian towns in rural regions
