Cartographic representation of hydrographic features in the state map series
Poláková, Tereza ; Lysák, Jakub (advisor) ; Šára, Pavel (referee)
Cartographic representation of hydrographic features in the state map series Abstract The goal of this bachelor thesis is to create a proposal to completion digital topographic database ZABAGED for hydrographic features. The first part is devoted to introduction to map keys of large scale Czech topographic maps since 1950s and also with the content of database ZABAGED. The emphasis is also put on historical context of new mapping and formation of digital database. The second part deals with a representation of hydrographic features and their guidance in digital topographic databases in four foreign countries. The practical part is devoted to designing a completion of attributes and features to ZABAGED. In view of the new attributes a cartographic representation of selected hydrographic features for the large scale maps is designed. All proposals were created considering the regulation of European Commission INSPIRE Data Specification on Hydrography. Keywords: hydrographic features, cartography, topographic databases, comparative study
Redistricting Bodies and Redistricting Reform in the U.S.: Where Are We Now and the Way Forward
Šára, Pavel ; Bečka, Jan (advisor) ; Calda, Miloš (referee)
While drawing electoral districts and its special type called gerrymandering (redistricting with a certain purpose in mind) has been present in American politics since the founding of the United States, it has recently received a lot of attention and criticism. Gerrymandering has been accused of ruining electoral competition, contributing to the gridlock in Congress, and hampering the spirit of American democracy. Moreover, legislators responsible for redistricting are frowned upon for choosing their own voters and thus ruining the purpose of the electoral process. Redistricting currently follows certain principles, the most important of which and the only two recognized at the federal level are population equality and minority representation. These principles were designed to limit the redistricting bodies when drawing districts. State legislatures remain the most common redistricting institution. However, for the criticism that they face various redistricting commissions with different powers were established. The current trend in the redistricting reform is to delegate the redistricting power to independent commissions which can adopt a redistricting plan without the consent of a legislature and whose members have no connections to politics. Competition and partisanship are the two most discussed...
Position accuracy assessment of underground water courses in ZABAGED
Matyáš, Michal ; Lysák, Jakub (advisor) ; Šára, Pavel (referee)
Positional accuracy assessment of underground water courses in ZABAGED Abstract The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide a comprehensive view of underground water courses through the eyes of a topographer and a cartographer with an emphasis on the evaluation of the position representation of this phenomenon. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the detailed introduction to ZABAGED datasets and to the research of other foreign topographic databases with an emphasis on the representation and display of underground water courses on topographic maps of medium and large scale. In the second part of the thesis, there are presented five basic methods of comparison of positional accuracy of lines in geoinformation systems. The practical part of the thesis includes a proposal of typology of underground water courses, as a comprehensive concept of different types of underground water courses, which is used for the correct evaluation of the position accuracy analysis on the selected relevant sample of the underground water courses in ZABAGED in the last part of this work. Keywords: underground water course; positional accuracy; topographic database
ACCURACY ASSESSMENT OF THE FOREST ROAD NETWORK CONTAINED IN THE GEOGRAPHICAL DATABASES OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Zub, Daniel ; Jaroš, Jakub (advisor) ; Šára, Pavel (referee)
Accuracy assessment of the forest road network contained in the geographical databases of the Czech republic Abstract The aim of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate forest road network spatial data resources in the Czech Republic. The main resources are ZABAGED, DMU 25, UHUL, SHOCart and maps for orienteering sports. The theoretical section of the thesis describes the definition and importance of forest road network, the classification of roads and paths of individual databases, methods which can be measured in wooded areas and their principles. The most described is the method of GPS measurements which contains errors that can occur when measured in forested areas. The practical part of the thesis contains an analysis of tracks and paths databases that was done on the basis of their classification, existence, similarities with the initial dataset (ZABAGED), a comparison of databases with field research. First, a method of analysis is described. Measurements were performed with geodetic GPS device and it also includes the determination of its accuracy in areas with unfavorable conditions. At the end, the results of analyzes are mentioned. The work contains a topographic map of the defined forest area in scale 1: 10 000.
