Analysis of the flood-generation mechanism in the Opava river basin down to the gauging station Opava
Šmídová, Jana ; Hladný, Josef (advisor) ; Řehánek, Tomáš (referee)
Floods can be a natural disaster, which cause material and environmental damage and in the worst case even cost human lives. The main aim of many flood studies is to bring out some finding, that could be use for optimisation of flood-protection arrangements and to specify outputs of flood prediction model. This thesis study the flood mechanism in the Opava river basin down to Opava profile. Part of the thesis is the load of landscape assessment during a season and the variation of flood frequency. More detailed is analysed the period 1960-2007. Particularly is paid attention to relation between the atmospheric conditions and origin of floods in connection with the time-space distribution of the causal precipitation. By synthesis of knowledge and using method of cluster analysis were set up a categorisation of flood according to common characteristics in the causation of flood origin and a shape of flood wave. There is also the Catalogue of flood, where are characterised the conditions of atmosphere and of landscape and hydrograms of flood wave in the Opava hydrological profile. The archive of the Otava river floods and design of analog-based forecasting method
Vlasák, Tomáš ; Hladný, Josef (advisor) ; Soukalová, Eva (referee) ; Kříž, Vladislav (referee)
(EN): Study of historical flood events is important as a base for hydrological studies, as well as for proposal offlood control measures and real-time flood forecasting helping forecasters to support their decisions. This work deals with proposal of Flood Archive (databa of flood event) and its app|ication in the scope offlood protection ofotava river basin to Písek water gauge. The objective was to pťopose Archive of historical floods containing information about casual synoptical situation, connected weather phenomena (precipitation, temperature) and runoff response. Flood formation mechanism in otava river basin was described using this Archive. A forecasting technique based on analogue method was designed. This technique searches historical records for flood events of similar causes and estimates possible development of runoff response. Archive consists of 72 flood events that occurred between I 890 and 2006 and their peak flow in all cases exceeded given threshold discharge in Písek closin. profile (lO-year return period for 1890-196,l and ,l -year return period for 1961-2006). Available historical data was gathered and processed inÍ.lgraphic form (maps, graphs' tables). F|ood Archive is part of the di ssertation thesis. The most outstanding features of flood formation mechanism in otava river...
Streamflow generation process and its dynamics in the Otava river headwaters
Kocum, Jan ; Janský, Bohumír (advisor) ; Hladný, Josef (referee) ; Kříž, Vladislav (referee)
In context of catastrophic floods and extreme droughts in recent years there is an urgent need of solving of issues dealing with protection against hydrological extremes, not using just classical engineering methods but also untraditional practices. There is a new protection strategy focusing on gradual increase of river catchment retention capacity including its headwater regions. All of the issues related to various possibilities and measures leading to river headstream areas retention capacity increase should be discussed by experts in various fields taking into account objectives and priorities of a supra-regional, regional and local significance. Natural runoff process is affected by man already by its birth, thus in headwaters where numerous procedures related to runoff retardation and water retention increase in headstream areas could be realized. Suitable conditions for the research realization at present is related to the Otava River headwaters (sw. Czechia) representing the core zone of a number of extreme runoff events and with high heterogeneity in the terms of physical-geographic and socio-economic aspects. To understand and clarify the runoff generation process and the effect of various physical-geographic factors on its dynamics, the detailed analyses of runoff regime in chosen...
Evolution of deficit volumes and mean and low flows in the Czech Republic.
Fiala, Theodor ; Hladný, Josef (advisor) ; Kulhavý, Zbyněk (referee) ; Majerčáková, Olga (referee)
The presented work deals with the evolution of river flows in the Czech Republic in the last few decades with a focus on hydrological drought. It starts with a detailed review of literature that concerns drought, its types, causes and impacts. It includes a list of the most frequently used methods of drought quantification and a review of papers on past and future trends of flows in the Czech Republic and Europe. Further, it describes how a new period for the evaluation of hydrological characteristics, which have been issued by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, were selected. The period of 1931-1980 has become out of date and the selection of a new period was requested. Following a number of statistical tests, the period of 1961-2005 was selected. The new period was evaluated regarding the trends of mean annual and monthly discharges. Mean annual flows did not show significant shifts. On the contrary, significant trends were found in mean monthly flows. Increasing trends in discharges of winter months and decreasing trends in spring months correspond with results of other studies which dealt with flows in Central Europe. The period of 1961-2005 was later reviewed and the current norm is 1981-2010. After the evaluation of mean flows, the characteristics of hydrological drought were analysed....
The proxydata in hydrology: Possible uses. The reconstruction of the flood magnitude data series in Prague in the period 1118 - 2002.
Elleder, Libor ; Hladný, Josef (advisor) ; Munzar, Jan (referee) ; Brázdil, Rudolf (referee)
2 Abstract The thesis aims to point to the importance of the proxydata, in particular their significance for hydrology and water management. The historical hydrology, the subject of which the proxydata are, offers the whole range of techniques for extrapolation of the knowledge on hydrological phenomena into the relatively distant past. The thesis includes the review of the scientific literature targeted in particular to the processes and history of the records of hydrometeorological phenomena, the origin of the historical hydrology, its methodology and potentialities. The author's own work focuses on the application of the techniques already in use and apart from that it presents the very new methodological approaches. This includes the reconstruction of the culmination discharges using the combination of several techniques, the reconstruction of the hydrograms of the historical floods, etc. The main goal has been to reconstruct the time series of estimated peak discharges in Prague for the period of 1118-2002. This meant to reassume the former results published in the form of the chronologies of interpreted and verified documentary sources. These were completed by the corrected Klementinum records of the water levels. Recently localized epigraphic sources have been utilized and the analysis of the...
