One of the main modes of bed load transport is saltation when particles hop up from the bed and follow ballistic-like trajectories. Mathematical models of saltation are mostly two-dimensional although the particle motion is actually three-dimensional. The aim of the present study is development of the 3D mathematical model of solid particle saltatory motion over rouhg bed in an open channel.

Collision with bed and magnus effect in numerical simulation of solid particle saltation over rough bed

The particle motion in an open channel over rough bed is consider. Mainly the process of collision with the bed controls the particle angular velocity. Conditions of the particle-bed collision is discussed. Particle parameters after its collision with bed are calculated based on parameters before collision.

Lateral dispersion on solid particles in water flow

The paper presents the results of investigation of solid particle motion over rough bed in an open channel flow. The turbulence characteristics of water flow were performed by means of LDA, the particle motion was analysed by a video camera. It was found that the mean deviation angle by which the particles are moving to side walls is about 2.4ř.

Numerical model of saltation in open channel with rough bed

The present contribution deals with a numerical modelling of a saltation of solid spherical particle in turbulent flow along rough bed in the open channel. The goal of the research is to obtain the dependences of average characteristics of particle saltation motion (as length and height of one particle jump) on flow parameters (which can be characterized e.g. by shear velocity and water depth) and bed roughness. The suggested dependences and calculated results are compared with analogical relationships introduced by other authors in literature.
