Common european framework of reference for languages and its application in teaching German as a foreign language in Czech conditions

The airn of this diplorna thesis is to analyze the Common European Framework oJ ReJerence Jor Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assesment (CEF) and its irnportant by-product, the European Language Portfolio (ELP). Also the current situation of foreign language teaching in the Czech Republic after the release of the abovernentioned docurnents will be dealt with. The scope ofthis thesis will be focused rnainly ofGerrnan as a foreign language and its position arnong other foreign languages taught in the Czech Republic. An analysis of chosen German language textbooks used in current language education is included. The analysis is focused on the textbooks' fulfilling the criteria of current European language policy. The explorative study included in this thesis focuses on the language teachers' awareness of the issue of CEF and ELP and their opinions on advantages and disadvantages ofthe two docurnents concerned. Using the outcorne ofthe study, we try to articulate our own suggestions on improving the CEF.
Activation of speaking skills of advanced students

The theoretical part of my Diploma thesis deals with activation of speaking of advanced students during German language lessons. The emphasis is especially put on tools that can be used to achieve students' higher speaking activity. The newest information in the field of educational objectives provided by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is also taken into consideration. In the practical part I present my own ideas how to liven up lessons and force students to speak actively.
Use of computers in German classes

The aim of this diploma thesis "Use of computers in German classes" is to present various ways of engaging computers in teaching German. The trend towards information society has made computers an essential part of our lives. In this regard all language teachers should consider finding new and effective ways of engaging computers in their classes and exploring new areas in which computers might become helpful. Czech educational system as well as educational system of other countries is governed by specific laws. As Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (hereafter referred to as "SERR") had significant role in the proposal of the new Education Act in relation to teaching foreign languages, the first chapter addresses the description and main ideas of this framework. The real implementation of SERR into the Czech educational system is described in chapter called "Framework educational programs". The second chapter deals with a theoretical description of four skills essential for teaching foreign languages, the basis for defining possible options to use computers in German classes. Developing of reading skills in teaching German as a foreign language in secondary-grammar schools

In the presented thesis about developing reading skills in teaching German as a foreign language in Secondary-Grammar schools, it has been both theoretically and practically shown how important teaching of reading skills is. It was the author's original aim to complete a work that would address the readings' basic role in the communicative didactics and summarize its general significance in learning a foreign language. The general psychological character of reading and its biological, cognitive and affective aspects were the subjects of chapter two, together with the basic terminological items such as transfer and interference, context sensibility or semantic ambiguity tolerance. The communicative skills - such as linguistic, lexical, grammatical, semantic, phonological, orthographical and orthoepic - were presented with regard to their knowledge and mastery at the level of B1 and B2, as they are defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: learning, teaching, assessment. The objectives of both learning and teaching languages (pragmatic, cognitive and emotional) and their specificity are discussed in the second part of chapter three. Motivation in foreign language teaching

The thesis investigates the infuences affecting students' motivation In foreign language teaching. It deals with the factors originating In the student' s personality and also concerns the outer elements. The thesis is trying to define the strategies which support and increase students' motivation and, at the same time, prevent its loss. Apart from the theoretical part, the work also contains several practical examples of emiching the education process and motivating the students.
