In the first part, the author relies on selected technical literature, through which we get acquainted with the ways actors can theoretically achieve the authenticity and veracity of their utterance using different well-known approaches to create the character. In the second part the theoretical knowledge is confronted with the author’s personal experience as a starting actor. It poses questions and looks for answers to some of those questions in the specialist literature, or by deducing from personal experience.First, numerous influences that affect a person during his studies are presented, the importance of a person’s psychological profile, as well as his understanding of himself, and of the world around him. Later on, personal experience from professional carrier is described. I am disclosing character work in the DISK theatre and I am trying to find reasons for my feelings, both, good and bad, during the rehearsing processes, and the cause of my successes and failures. Acting, on stage as well as in front of the camera, is described from an unusual point of view, focusing greatly on details that are oftentimes overlooked. The new perspective from which I am trying to present acting and the life of an artist consists not only of the professional tools for mastering the craft - such as learning new parts, adopting the technical skills, etc. - but emphasizes humanity, underlines its importance, and searches for a threshold between professional and personal life of an actor.

In Search of an Approach for Studying Acting
Šiktancová, Jaroslava ; CÍSAŘ, Jan (advisor) ; HUBA, Martin (referee)
In my doctoral thesis I am trying to find an answer to the question: How the studies at the Dramatic theatre department of Academy of Performing arts can prepare future graduates to their professional life. The majority of examples described in my thesis is comming from the experience I've gained with my last graduate class. I am trying to illustrate why and what changes I've decided to made, using also my former experiences. The intention of my thesis is to present certain research, I am not willing to create new coherent method, where the acting candidates would serve as some kind of model human being. I admit that at certain point I am balancing at a very fine line of discretion But I do belive that my students and colegues would be able to excuse my possible inexactitudes.

The Director as a Shifting Role
Burianová, Zuzana ; ŠIKTANCOVÁ, Jaroslava (advisor) ; BURIAN, Jan (referee)
The present master's thesis focuses on relationships between the director and the other creators of a theatre production and on the ways in which these relationships develop during the creative process. The author describes and reassesses specific practical examples from her directorial and dramaturgical experience in years 2012-2015. The first part is devoted to those productions in which the author collaborated also on the playtext. It seeks to identify specific primary impulses which had inspired individual projects and to track any subsequent evolution of these impulses, a process which the author defines as assignment formulation. The second part concentrates in more detail on collaboration with actors and explores the circumstances in which a free creative process can be established, the border between the actor's creation and the director's direction of the actor. The third part addresses the interaction between three theatre professions, namely the director, the dramaturgist and the set designer.
KEEPING DISTANCE AND COMPLETE FUSION INTO A CHARACTER
Radová, Marie ; ŠIKTANCOVÁ, Jaroslava (advisor) ; MRKVIČKA, Ladislav (referee)
This thesis examines my method of portraying theatrical characters throught the main ideas and dramatic theories of Denis Diderot, Konstantin Sergeyevich Stanislavsky and Bertolt Brecht. I perceive the themes of blending with a character and keeping a distance from a character as a question of sense and sensibility in theater, i.e. a question of conscious acting as opposed to acting which stems from the subconscious. While constantly rehearsing new roles and searching for my theatrical self, I came across three mutually contradictory dramatic theories and began to feel a need to confront them. In this thesis, I compare Diderot's Paradox of Acting, Stanislavsky's Method and Brecht's approach to one another while commenting on them from the perspective of my own acting experience. I further elaborate on my acting experience in the chapter about Letovisko, my second graduation play at the Disk Theatre. It is in this chapter where I answer most of my questions related to my acting. Another acting experience described in this thesis is my work on two productions of Bertold Brecht's Drums in the Night. I compare a version me and my classmates rehearsed in our second semester and a different, altered version we created four years later

Actor´s creation of character in a graduate production and in professional theater
Anděl, Matěj ; SALZMANNOVÁ, Eva (advisor) ; ŠIKTANCOVÁ, Jaroslava (referee)
This Thesis examines the issue of character creation from the actor's point of view. As each actor perceives the process of creation differently and applies his own specific methods, I made the decision to concentrate on my individual approach: Which acting techniques do I use, which problems have I encountered and how have I found solutions to individual situations. I additionally strive to identify certain perks and downsides of the acting profession within the scope of the Thesis, particularly those likely to be encountered by an aspiring actor transitioning from a student theater to a professional troupe. The practical differences of these two environments are substantial and bring along multiple complications while simultaneously presenting a crucial turning point in an actors life. The Thesis primarily draws upon my personal experiences, lesson notes and my diary kept for the duration of my studies. The work is mostly based upon my graduation role in the Disk Theater staging of Punkrock. I further examine my first major professional experiences with the Masopust o.p.s. troupe, having participated on two production, the Steadfast prince (Vytrvalý princ) and Chupacabra. I then move on to Klicpera's Theater in which I had performed as a guest for one year and subsequently have been offered a company membership. From this experience I have chosen the two most important productions: Richard III and Romeo and Juliet. This work is mainly intended for students or fresh graduates of acting studies who could possibly benefit practically from some of my experiences on their own journey through the profession.
