Štěpánková, Hana ; Niederlová, Markéta (advisor) ; Holmerová, Iva (referee) ; Smolík, Filip (referee)
Description and explanation of a natural decline of cognitive functions during ontogenetic aging laid in a century of its history grounds for various experiments trying to find wals to slow down or revoke theis process of decline. One of the cognitive domains that has been gaining ever stronger attention among neuroscientists is working memory, which is interconnected with other functions, especially with attention, executive function and fluid intelligence. So far, there has not been reached a consensus regarding a model of working memory. Nevertheless, there are many efforts to describe it, to explain its role within cognitive processes, and to enhance performance. They resulted in various complex and also specialized interventions that are used also in studies focused on older persons. This study adds to the body of literature on transfer effects of working memory training in young-old persons (age 65-75 years; N=65). It is a randomized controlled study with 2 intervened and 1 passive control groups. Care Farming as a Form of Rehabilitation and Social service
Kadlecová, Helena ; Holmerová, Iva (advisor) ; Deverová, Lenka (referee)
Care farming includes using farms, farm work and animals, and agricultural and horticultural activities for improving human health and quality of life. It has its roots in involving patients in farm and agricultural work within large health and social care institutions in the past. It also originates from rural self-help systems, which used to employ disadvantaged individuals on farms. Modern care farming is a part of multifunctional agriculture, which offers services beyond mere production of food and fabric. From the care part it comes from the search for new possibilities of therapy, rehabilitation and integration of disabled and disadvantaged people, within the process of deinstitutionalisation of care. Some countries have developed this concept with research conducted at both national and international levels. Care farming has been mostly a bottom-up approach that arose spontaneously from individuals' and organizations' pursuits. If the number of care farming providers is higher in a country they tend to create a network to cooperate better and share experience. I describe the situation in Norway and the United Kingdom. Care farming is provided by farms or social/health care organizations as a means of service. Frequent target groups are people with mental health problems, learning difficulties,...

Introducing Nursing Care Standard to the Anaesthesiology Clinic
Štěpánková, Jitka ; Holmerová, Iva (advisor) ; Vaculíková, Barbora (referee)
Nowadays, "quality" is a much-used term in connection with the provision of healthcare. Every healthcare provider has as its goal the provision of high-quality services. Its up to each of them to decide both how ambitious they can be in the pursuit of patient satisfaction and how best to achieve this. At the IKEM Anaesthesiology Clinic, we provide post-operative care for patients after cardiac surgery. In the early stages of recovery, patients can suffer acute pain accompanied by a whole range of other symptoms. Insufficient analgesia prevents patients attempting adequate breathing rehabilitation and early post-operative mobilisation. Some patients accept pain as part and parcel of surgery. Even though they are in pain they don't think to ask for analgesia. For these reasons, we decided to research how the patient views his own comfort and rates his experience of the medical care provided in the post-operative department. By means of simple organisational measures - increasing the frequency and relevance of patient feedback, by standardising procedures and introducing standard practices into the analgaesic therapy, it is possible to increase patients' comfort. And this without increasing costs and without unnecessary side-effects.

Hanulíková, Zuzana ; Holmerová, Iva (advisor) ; Válková, Monika (referee)
This master work deals with the measurement of the quality in social services. The present system how to guarantee the quality is quite new in the Czech Republic. So it can be useful to investigate it deeply. The study focuses on the indicators of the quality in social services, because assessing the quality by inspectors is based on them. There are the first analyses of the past inspections nowadays. They point out the heterogenity in the evaluation of the indicators as the components of the evaluated standards. The caseless judgement of the poor quality of social services can cause farreaching consequences to them. Many of providers are occupied with solving financial situation, creating standards of quality and solving everyday matters in so far they can devote their time to this theme marginally or not at all. In the empirical part of this work, there has been used a grouded theory, which has been based on qualitative interviews identifying crucial factors of the surveyed area. Cumulating and lingering problems away can mean a wide range of the negative impact for the organization: As from a negative attitude to the philosophy of quality, spreading a bad reputation of the inspection and ends with frustrated employees,, or even their leaving social services. The interviewed providers of social services...

Filipová, Ivana ; Jurašková, Božena (advisor) ; Šauer, Karel (referee) ; Holmerová, Iva (referee)
Quality of the contemporary care of the old patients. The probability of disease increases with the old age. It can happen, that it dones to the situation, when the man won't be able to lead full - value life. Thereby becomes quality and accessible health and social care more important. The care about old man belongs to the most physically and bodily demanding. Older sick patients can have considerable cognitive, sense, move or communication handicap. They are not able to tell their needs, they don't react appropriate on the questions and challenges, they are not self sufficient. Thus becomes the work of the health workers more difficult.. It is not possible to conduct quality health care without understanding of the problems of ageing and old age, without empathy and dignity to the old people.
