Článek sleduje národní rady v Československu v zatím nepříliš zkoumaném období socialistického parlamentarismu v 70. a 80. letech 20. století. Autorka vysvětluje, jaké funkce plnily republikové rady v politickém systému státu, a ukazuje, že většinu času měly ve složité zastupitelské struktuře pouze reprezentovat český resp. slovenský "lid", avšak jejich "národnost" byla vepsána již ve federáním systému z roku 1968 a ihned v listopadu 1989 se začala ozývat. The article focuses on the National Councils in Czechoslovakia during the under-researched period of Socialist parliaments in the 1970 and 1980s. The author demonstrates their functions in the political system. She argues that they were expected to represent the Czech and Slovak "peoples" in the country's complicated representative structure, but their national(ist) trait was a part of the federalization of 1968 and "woke up" immediately after the Velvet Revolution.
