This bachelor thesis analyses two writings by the Austrian writer Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, namely Child of the Neighbourhood and The Excellent Pupil, with an emphasis on the childhood and maturation of the main characters. With this focus in mind, the thesis examines their behaviour and ability to manage complex social situations. Most importantly, the protagonists' relationships with their friends and relatives are carefully studied. Keywords: Child, freedom, life, love, parents, personal development, school, society, work V této bakalářské práci se věnuji dílům Obecní dítě a Premiant od rakouské spisovatelky Marie von Ebner-Eschenbachové s hlavním důrazem na dětství hlavních hrdinů. Díla spadají do literárních směrů poetický realismus a naturalismus. Věnuji se zejména dětství a dospívání těchto postav, jejich jednání. Podstatné jsou také vztahy protagonistů k blízkým osobám, zejména k rodině a k přátelům.
