Abstract: This Bachelor thesis focuses on the diversity of the recently discovered group of marine protists- diplonemids. Only a few species were known until the results from the Tara Oceans Expeditions revealed their extreme diversity and abundance in the global ocean ecosystem. Nowadays, they are considered to be the most diverse planktonic eukaryotes. The data available from the Tara Oceans expeditions indicate vertical stratification of eupelagonemids (group of diplonemids), but these studies are based only on limited sampling. The main objective of this thesis is to find and compare eupelagonemids from samples collected in Adriatic Sea in the whole dept spectrum using environmental sequencing methods.
