Recent results of algebra and geometry made it possible to solve global problems for linear differential equations. This paper gives a survey of the history and the present state of this research. Nedávné výsledky a metody z algebry a geometrie umožnily řešení globálních problémů v oblasti lineárních diferenciálních rovnic. Článek podává historii a současný stav tohoto výzkumu.
