Dlohodobé účinky piogltazonu zlepšily u potkanů dyslipidemii, inzulinovou rezistenci ve svalech a v tukové tkáni. Postupné snižování sérových koncentrací inzulinu během léčby naznačuje pozitivní účinky na hyperinzulinemii a na možnost prevence diabetu 2. typu Long-term pioglitazone treatment of rats ameliorates dyslipidemia and insulin resistance in muscle and adipose tissue. Gradual decrease in serum insulin levels during therapy suggest positive effects on hyperinsulinemia and a possibilty to prevent type 2 diabetes
