V příspěvku je podán přehled stavu vývoje přístupových a metropolitních sítí s důrazem na jejich optické varianty. Kromě technologických aspektů jsou diskutovány také otázky ekonomické a legislativní a stav jejich zavádění do praxe u nás i zejména v zahraničí. The paper presents an overview of the access and metropolitan area networks with emphasis on their optical variations. Apart from the technological aspects also the economical and legislature issues are discussed. The state of deployment of the networks at home and abroad is reported.
