Optické a radiové sítě se navzájem doplňují jako nikdy předtím. Na druhé straně začíná být stále jasnější skutečnost, že zatímco v dálkových sítítch již jednoznačně dominují optické spoje, v přístupových sítích spolu soutěží sítě kabelové (metalické i světlovodné) se sítěmi radiovými. V příspěvku je diskutována role optických sítí v budoucí generaci komunikačních systémů. Optical and radiocommunications networks are as complimentary as ever. However, a clear picture is emerging as optical technologies are becoming dominant in the long-distance network core while both optics and radio are competing in the access part of communication networks. The role of optical networks in the new generation of communication systems is discussed in the paper.
