I prostá identifikace pigmentů při restaurování může přispět k datování výtvarného díla při znalosti historie praktického využívání těchto látek. Hovořit o původu materiálu znamená navíc zabývat se buď postupem jeho přípravy (recepturou) nebo jeho půvm přírodním - proveniencí a genezí nerostů a hornin. Původ je parametrem, který pigmenty vždy blíže specifikuje a může tak být významným vodítkem při studiu historických výtvarných technik. Fundamental identification of pigments during the restoration process can help in a dating of the artistic work. Mineralogical approach in the study of natural pigments is necessary, when detail information on the origin and prepararion procedure is ned, focusing the provenance of the material and, in an interdisciplinary discussion, the provenance of the artistic work.
