Cílem této práce je zhodnotit Turecko jako potenciálního člena EU. Moje práce je rozdělena do čtyř hlavních částí. První kapitola popisuje základní geografické údaje o Turecku, hlavní historické a politické mezníky a důležitost postavení v rámci regionu. Druhá kapitola se zabývá vývojem vztahů mezi Tureckem a EU a popisuje celní unii. Třetí kapitola hodnotí současnou ekonomickou situaci země. Poslední kapitola se zabývá politickými aspekty vstupu -- analyzuje otázku dodržování demokracie, postavení menšin, kyperský spor a možné dopady případného vstupu Turecka do EU. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate Turkey as a potential EU member. My thesis is divided into four main parts. The first chapter describes the basic geographic information about Turkey, the main historical and political milestones and the importance of the position within the whole region. The second chapter deals with the development of relations between Turkey and the EU and describes the customs union. The third chapter assesses the current economic situation in the country. The last chapter concentrates on the political aspects of accession - the respect for democracy, minorities' status, the Cyprus issue and the impact of a possible accession of Turkey into EU.
