Diversity, ecology and methods of the research of lichens in old-growth forests in Central Europe
Malíček, Jiří ; Palice, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Guttová, Anna (referee) ; Pérez-Ortega, Sergio (referee)
1 Abstract Forests are the native Central European vegetation, which have dominated in the landscape for the last c. 10,000 years. Stands with an oak and hornbeam dominance occupied lower elevations before human colonization, beech and silver fir-beech forests middle elevations and spruce stands at higher elevations. Only a few remnants of forests, which can be regarded as primeval or with a minimal impact of forest management, have survived in densely populated Central Europe. Examples of the most preserved primeval forests are Rothwald (Austria), Białowieża (Poland, Belorussia), Stužica/Stuzhytsia (Slovakia, Ukraine) and Boubín (Czech Republic). Although these sites are small and isolated, they are local diversity centers for many organisms, mainly for fungi, lichens and bryophytes, refugia for numerous endangered species and some of them have their last localities there. Epiphytic and epixylic lichens are an ideal model group for studies about forests because they sensitively indicate management, continuity, heterogeneity and age of a woodland. Therefore they could help us to answer many important questions about the conservation of natural forests. This thesis comprises several different points of view on lichens in Central European forests and its aim is to join these heterogeneous fields into one...

It outlines geological and pedological situation of the area which influences plant composition. Majority of the thesis is dedicated to the ecosystem of bottomland woods and to their historical evolution in the area of Dolní Poohří. It focuses on the flora and dendroflora of the observed locality and links them to mutual connection. It also summarizes individual local species of vegetation. This thesis also describes the history of the area and points out especially castle area Libochovice and Budyně nad Ohří from the historical point of view. It offers a brief historical overview of modifications of castle garden and park, as well as their current situation and plant composition. In the practical part, an educational tourist trail from Libochovice to Budyně nad Ohří has been designed. Route description, graphics and contents of the information panels, as well as work-lists for elementary and high school students are parts of the project design. An...
Analýza plodnosti dubu letního (Quercus robur L.) na LZ Židlochovice (lokalita Soutok)
Otáhal, Josef
The main concern of this work was observation of acorn yield depending on the tree position in forest (solitaire, forest edge tree, integrated tree and tree in the close nature forest). Further, quality of acorns was observed by ČSN standard and seed ability to survive natural regeneration was also observed. The research was conducted in the years 2011-2013, using deployed seed traps under selected trees and their regular monitoring. The results show that most fructifying are solitary trees and least integrated ones. Acorn quality was low and its ability to overwintering was minimal. Main reason of the poor quality was infestation by insects and fungi.
