The attitude of the public to foster care
NESNÍDALOVÁ, Klára
My thesis deals with the attitude of public to foster care. One of the paradoxical issues is the fact that the number of children who are not reared by their biological parents remains quite high while the number of childless partnerships (though desiring offspring) is growing. In the Czech Republic, similarly as in other European countries, about 1% of children (about 20,000) do not grow up in their biological families. Only 2% of that group are full orphans. The remaining 98% of children have living biological parents who do not or cannot take care of them. I endeavored to find out how well individual members of the Czech society are informed about one of the possible solutions of infertility: alternate family care. Using questionnaires, I focused on several age and level of education groups and asked general as well as more personal questions. In the general part, I wanted to find out whether the individual knew what alternate family care was, the different kinds of alternate family care, who provides support during the process, what are the different options, the difference between adoption and foster care, etc. Then I inquired about their own willingness to take in a child, whether sex of the child, somatic and intellectual predisposition were criteria for them and whether they would take in a child of a different ethnicity. It is interesting to note that women are usually more prone to blame themselves for infertility.

Two age cohort (12 years old and 16 years old), 317 boys and 449 girls completed a set of instruments including a depression scale (the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale ů Radloff, 1991), a questionnaire regarding personal dimensions (stability-lability, extraversion-introversion), and scales regarding perception and evaluation of family environment and atmosphere (warmth of mother, warmth of father, family trust, quarrels, coping strategies).

Junková, Petra ; Bolcha, Peter (advisor) ; Janíčko, Martin (referee)
This thesis analyses the possible existence of a relation between chosen determinants and number of children which are placed in institutes for infants and homes for children up to 3 years of age for social reasons in the Czech Republic during the period 1993 -- 2008. First part is focused on theory of the family by Gary S. Becker. It evaluates each part of the decision making process scheme and analyses the final choice of placing a child in the institutional care. In the empirical part of the thesis four determinants are selected based on the laid out theoretical ground and other related studies. These determinants which are the focal point of the empirical analysis are: registered unemployment, real household income, state social support benefits and number of women in prison. Regression analysis and analysis of the placement of children discharged from institutional care for children up to 3 years of age are the main methods of examination. Based on the conclusions of the examination there are possible measures and actions suggested, that can be taken in order to improve the state of institutional care.

Effects of state social policy on marriage and family in Czech Republic
Veselá, Kateřina ; Šíma, Josef (advisor) ; Munzi, Tomáš (referee)
The diploma thesis is devoted to effects of social policy on marriage and family in Czech Republic. Significant demografic phenomenon of last 20 years in Czech Republic is rise of extra-marital childbearing. Childbearing outside marriage is especially common in the case of first birth and has become typical of young mothers, the lowest-educated women and the high-unemployment regions. The increasing trend of bachelor mothers was connected with the transformation process and generous social system in 90's of 20th century. Young couples often do not get married and they pretend incomplete family in order to obtain social incomes. Ministry of Labour expected from changes in the state social support system as well as in the formation of living minimum the solution of the problem with purposeful cohabitation. The target of the thesis is to show that couples can profit from the purposeful cohabitation after these changes as well as before and demonstrate how much higher incomes can be and how much more state can pay on social benefits.
