The Influence of US Policy on the Post-War Development of Western Germany 1945-50

In this bachelor thesis the author focus on the influence of the United States of America on the post-war development of Germany between 1945 and 1950. Concretely in the time from the end of the World War II till the first months after establishing the state of Western Germany. The main goal of this thesis is to find, how the US-American foreign policy, that has started to change in this period, affected the resolving of the question of post-war Germany. The Author proceed from the stance of Franklin D. Roosevelt, who refused the engagement of the U.S. in the post-war economic development of Europe, and who stated, that the U.S. Army will leave the European territory until two years after the end of the WWII. But in the following years the U.S. started to leave this policy to set a new course, which was connected with evolvement of the United States in Europe and western parts of Germany. After the introduction, there will be introduced the American ideas of the post-war world structure, the theory of isolationism and Delano's the concept of "Four Policemen". The portrayal of post-war Germany in the novel District court by Ursula Krechel

This bachelor thesis deals with the novel District court (Landgericht) by the contemporary German writer Ursula Krechel, who introduces a life story of one German family in the period from the thirties to the seventies in the 20th century in this book. The fact, that the father has a Jewish origin fatally affects the fate of all the family members. Even though the story is a fiction, its historical background is real and supported by authentic material, which the author often cites. The first part of this bachelor thesis introduces the writer, analyses the title, time, places, style of narration, language and composition. It follows a summary of the story, a characterization of the main characters and an outline of their life stories. It deals then with the important themes in the novel - problems of the partnership, collapse of the family and loss of the identity. The result of this bachelor thesis is an analysis of this literary work, which answers the research question, how the postwar Germany is portrayed in the novel District court. The writer casts doubt on the post-war course of events in Germany.
