The thesis "Regional Identity of the Residents and Holiday-makers in the Borderlands; Case Study: Bor in the Tachov Region" aims on the assessment of the regional identity of the residents and holiday-makers in the border area of the Czech Republic- Bor region, and then finding of the awareness of the solidarity of the users of the area in which they are living and which they are using for the purpose of recreation. Beside the assessment of the regional identity in the Bor region the thesis aims on comparison of the research outcomes of the chosen area with the overall outcomes of the grant project number 43/03/1491 and finding specifics through the questionnaire survey and guided dialogues, including tabular and graphical representation of the outcomes. Another aim is the assessment of the regional identity based on the promotional materials. The model area of Bor in the Tachov region is an example of the border periphery of the Czech Republic where the forming of regional identity was deeply affected by the World War II and successive settlement.
The concept of regional identity in the research of socially constructed regions: a multiscale perspective
Nikischer, Richard
It has been approximately three decades since "new" approaches to studying regions began to appear in the context of socio-cultural turn in geography. From the perspective of the so-called new regional geography, the region does not represent a naturally given spatial unit nor a semantically empty construction of the analysis of the society's spatial organization. The "new" regional geographer perceives regions as dynamic social struc- tures linked to a collective consciousness. In this respect, the research of regions represents a study of the social organization of space. While research of the spatial (geographic) organization of society in Czech geography has a rather long tradition, a similar statement cannot be made regarding the research into the social organization of space (the other side of the relationship between space and society). Despite the fact that even in Czechia the number of academics interested in the process of the institu- tionalization of regions is gradually growing, i.e. about how and why regions are constructed/deconstructed as a part of social life, domestic research of the social organization of space is still only in its early stages. The present doctoral dissertation represents a relevant contribution to the current debate regarding the issues of the social...
Regionální identita obyvatel mikroregionu Jemnice
KRATOCHVÍLOVÁ, Barbora
This bachelor thesis examines the degree of regional identity of the inhabitants of the micro-region of Jemnice. The area of interest was chosen based on its specific geographic location. The first part is devoted to the definition and characterization of key concepts such as the region, the perception of geographic space and its regional identity. The practical part of the thesis is based on a questionnaire survey and an analysis of the obtained data was carried out. In the framework of the survey, the citizens were consulted within individual hierarchical levels of administrative units, patriotism, their susceptibility to migration and / or, for example, the demarcation of the micro-region by the population. Within the interest area, the prevailing national identity was identified, followed by a regional identity.
