Identification of the cervical spine's meniscoids by MRI before and after aplication of manual therapy
Píglová, Tereza ; Jelen, Karel (advisor) ; Tlapáková, Eva (referee) ; Vacek, Jan (referee)
Introduction The joint dysfunction of the spine in the sense of functional blockade is connected with corresponding painful condition, reflex contraction of the surrounding muscles and restriction of mobility in the spinal segment. Joint block has its mechanical context, which need not be accompanied by a structural disturbance but it's affecting the biomechanical properties of the spine. Several theories exist how the joints become restricted. Scientific evidence highly supports the meniscoid entrapment theory. Purposes The aim of the study was to identify the meniscoids of the cervical spine using in- vivo MRI imaging and to determine their potential role in the development of functional joint blocks of the axial system (AS). Another objective was to find out how the articular blocks affect the rheological properties of the spine by the Transfer Vibration through the Spine (TVS) method. Patient sample The MRI study was conducted on a research file of 12 subjects - two anatomical preparations and ten in vivo. Two subjects were examined in TVS experiment. Methodology Two anatomical preparations were investigated on MRI to find the appropriate sequence for imaging of meniscoids, three subjects for identification of meniscoids in vivo. Seven subjects underwent initial investigation, manipulation of...

Plačková, Veronika ; Jelen, Karel (advisor) ; Šorfová, Monika (referee)
Title: Detection of rheological changes in the axial system of pregnant women using the TVS method. Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to evaluace the effect of pregnancy on the biomechanical properties of the spine. Methods: TVS vibration diagnostic methods were applied to six pregnant women twice during pregnancy. It was investigated ability of axial system to dampen vibration spreading through out the spine. The ability of every single segment to damp vibrations were compared with each other at the beginning and during pregnancy. Results: TVS method used for purpose of this paper has been proved adequate to provide information about the resonant frequencies and the total attenuation of the spine with sufficient accuracy, so that the biomechanice changes of axial system during pregnancy could be decidly identified. Comparison of the frequency dependency and total attenuation of spine indicated increase of total attenuation of the spine and also increase of flexibility of the spine in all investigated probands. Keywords: gravidity, pregnancy, axial system, vibrations, TVS, spine

Janáčková, Nina ; Šorfová, Monika (advisor) ; Jelen, Karel (referee)
Thesis Title: The Quantification of Biomechanical Consequences of Monotonous Sedentary Work to the Axial System Thesis Goals: The goal of the Diploma Thesis is to assess the impact of sedentary work position on the axial system and to find out what changes in biomechanical properties occur specifically in the spine after the specific monotonous eight hours lasting load. Method: Five probands were exposed to diagnostic vibrations of the TVS method (transfer vibration through the spine) before performing eight hours monotonous sedentary work and after it. The examined feature was the ability of the axial system to dampen vibrations spread throughout the spine. Dampening reactions of individual segments were compared to each other before and after the performance of work. Results: The TVS method applied at work has proven its adequacy in the provision of information on resonance frequencies and on the overall attenuation of the spine with sufficient accuracy so that the impact to the axial system after completing the work performance was clearly identifiable. When comparing the frequency dependence and overall attenuation of individual probands we have found that the overall attenuation of the spine increased in all examined individuals. Key words: work, axial system, spine, vibrations and TVS.
Identification of changes in mechanical characteristics of human axial system as a result of loading and relaxation regime
Van der Kamp Kloučková, Kateřina ; Jelen, Karel (advisor) ; Maršík, František (referee) ; Rosina, Jozef (referee)
Problem: A lot of attention is given to the safety of the driving and the possibility to register fatigue of the drivers. Driving cars is monotony and static. Vibration loading, which causes changes in the axial system. This causes discomfort and fatigue to drivers after some time of exposure to the loading. Hypothesis: It is possible to prove the changes of mechanical characteristics (indicators) of the axial system using the TVS (transfer vibration through spine) method. By using TVS method before and after different types of loading or before and after relaxation it is possible to detect changes of the viscoelastic properties. This can be done by checking changes in the way of waves transfer through the axial system of the observed participants. Objective: Verify the possibility of use of TVS method to register changes of the viscoelastic characteristics of the axial system. Method: The TVS was chosen as a detection method. The method is based on the use of five-msec semi-bandwidth γ pulse stimuli and consequent application of continuously changing harmonic stimuli which periodically differ between 5Hz and 160Hz to the vertebrae C7 and L5. This wave is carried through the axial system and its acceleration on the spinous processes between C7 and S1 is scanned with the help of accelerometric...
Pathological consequences of hypokinesis in paraplegic patient and their identification by TVS method
Vavrová, Dominika ; Jelen, Karel (advisor) ; Čichoň, Rostislav (referee)
Thesis title: Pathological consequences of hypokinesis in paraplegic patient and their identification by TVS method The thesis focus: The focus of the thesis was to identify and classify differences of mechanical properties of axial systems between paraplegic patient and people from healthy population. Secondary focus of the thesis was to identify and classify changes of mechanical properties of axial system in paraplegic patient depending on physiotherapeutic intervention. The research methods: Three people, one paraplegic person and two healthy people were measured with TVS (Transfer Vibration Through Spine) method. Paraplegic person was measured twice, before and after one hour long physiotherapeutic intervention (PI). Healthy people were measured once, without PI. TVS method is a diagnostic apparatus that enables qualitative and quantitative classification of properties of axial skeleton and its segments. It is based on fact that velocity of mechanical waves and density of mechanical energy transmitting through axial skeleton is affected by properties of this system. Thus we were able to analyze and identify mechanical properties of measured axial systems according to differences of input and output values of acceleration on particular spinous processes. The results: When we compared frequency...

Author: Zdenka Havlová Institution: Department of Rehabilitation Medicine The Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové Title: Kinesiotherapy in idiopathic scoliosis focusing on the reflexlocomotion Supervisor: Mgr. Bohumila Horká Pages: 89 Inserts: 5 The year of presentation: 2013 Keywords: idiopathic scoliosis, ontogenesis, axial systém, reflexlocomotion The thesis deals with the kinesiotherapy in idiopathic scoliosis taking into account the possibilities of Vojta method. It deals also with the history of this disease, incidence in the population, relation between ontogenetic development and development of the axial system. The thesis also describes the treatment options and introduces the most used method of kineziotherapy. It contains two case studies of the patients with the idiopathic scoliosis where the Vojta method was used as the main method of kinesiotherapy.
