Dvořáková, Tereza ; Broukalová, Jindra (advisor) ; Bučková, Tamara (referee)
This diploma thesis explores the lyrical poetry of Eduard Mörike (1804-1875), a German poet. The topic of the thesis is theencountering of nature and love in his works. This poet, less known in the Czech context, wrote various kinds of poems, which deserve attention. The thesis is divided in two parts, theoretical and interpretative. In the first part, the thesis focuses on giving an overall context (I deal with a historical context, literary epochs, during which Eduard Mörike wrote, his personality and general introduction in lyrical poetry). The second part of my thesis aims to interpret selected poems, which are divided bytheir themes: romantic love, the morning, wayfaring, the forest and the so-called "Dinggedichte," or poems focusing on understanding and appreciation of a single item. In each poem, a mood or feeling that characterizes the poem is described, who is the speaker within the poem, and which topics of love and nature can be observed. From the perspective of form, I analyze the rhyme scheme. The analysis of each thematic group also contains a comparation of the poems. The interpretational part aims to connect and evaluate the interweaving of love and nature in the poetic works of Eduard Mörike and touch upon the deeper meaning of the poems. Its aim is also to make the selected works...
Winners and Losers. Images of Women in Theodor Fontane's Novels Frau Jenny Treibel and Effi Briest
Jansová, Iva Bernadetta ; Broukalová, Jindra (advisor) ; Tvrdík, Milan (referee)
This Master's thesis deals with female characters of the socially critical novel Frau Jenny Treibel by Theodor Fontane, in order to find out whether the heroines are satisfied in their social roles or whether they try to challenge the social norms, and what role their social background and education play in this matter. Furthermore, we ask what life goals these women pursue and how successful they are in fulfilling them. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter sketches Fontane's biography with the emphasis on the importance of his numerous friendships with women and his ambivalent relationship to female emancipation. Based on literature research, the second chapter introduces poetic realism focusing on Fontane's specific position in it - as a critical realist with elements of modernity. The third, longest chapter, contains the analysis and interpretation of the individual female characters of the novel. We have found, that regardless their social class and education, the heroines live under social conventions, according to which their main goal is an advantageous marriage, functioning at the same time as the measure of their success. The two protagonists, the representative of the intellectual bourgeoisie Corinna, and the more experienced representative of the newly rich...
The ordinary and extraordinary in life and experience of child protagonists in Adalbert Stifter's stories Rock Crystal and Granite
Koťová, Markéta ; Broukalová, Jindra (advisor) ; Haupenthal, Thomas Maria (referee)
The following diploma thesis deals with the analysis of two short stories by Adalbert Stifter from his collection Colorful stones - Rock Crystal and Granit. They were deliberately chosen, because in both stories children are the main protagonists. In these short stories there is always a boy and a girl, while the boy is always the one more experienced, and he protects the girl and brings her to safety. She follows him and obeys his instructions. Although the text contains many descriptions, it does not act statically because the heroes are on the run from danger, which gives the action dynamics. The text, the story, the language and the plot of the short stories as well as their common elements are analyzed. Furthermore, the theoretical concept, which is formulated in the preface to this collection, and whose major concepts are big and small, is confronted with the realization in these short stories. KEYWORDS Life, experience, ordinary, extraordinary, child, behaving, love, danger, nature, landscape, death
