Ammonites of the geslinianum zone, Upper Cenomanian (BCB)
Cápová, Andrea ; Košťák, Martin (advisor) ; Ziegler, Václav (referee)
ENGLISH SUMMARY Ammonite assemblage from the Upper Cenomanian of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin realtively poorly known. Some species have been described herein for the first time: Thomelites cf. sornayi (Thomel) Euomphaloceras septemseriatum (Cragin) Eucalycoceras pentagonum (Gragin) and Allocrioceras annulatum (Shumard.). These records predominantly come from the M. geslinianum zone sediments developed in the higher parts of the Pecinov member (Uličný et al., 1998) of the Peruc - Korycany Formation. The sediments yielding ammonite assemblage represents the Late Cenomanian transgressive tract, accompanied by anoxic event OAE II = Oceanic anoxic Event II, CTBE) worldwide recorded in sediments and showing an increased content of stable isotope δ13 C. The OAE II is suggested to be connected to marine biota crisis and also the mass extinctionas well. The most affected organisms were benthic forms, due to high anoxic conditions at the bottom of the water column. Morphological features of the shells may, depending on the quality preservation shells (or cores) can be used to paleobathymetric interpretations. Most described species lived at depths of 50-80 m (up to 100m). Pelagic ammonites (i.e. Sciponoceras) lived at depths of up to 50 m. Heteromorphic taxa (Allocrioceras) have occurred at a depth of up to 100 m.
Mineralogy in the School curricula
Kálalová, Anna ; Matějka, Dobroslav (advisor) ; Ziegler, Václav (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on teaching geology and mainly mineralogy on grammar schools. Questionnaire was made for purposes of this bachelor thesis. Objective of this questionnaire was to ascertain information about organization teaching geology and mineralogy on these types of schools and their inclusion in the school curricula. The questionnaire results showed that each school is very different in organization of teaching geology. Mineralogy is most often taught in first classes of four-year, or an equivalent multi-year study. Mineralogy is at some schools taught only in classes corresponding to an elementary school. Optional subject in which is the geology taught students may choose only to nearly forty percent of surveyed schools. Schools use a lot of sorts of material - textbooks for elementary and secondary schools, university textbooks, professional books and Internet resources. The most common tools used in the teaching of geology are collections of samples. Very frequent are also models of crystals and the geological maps. Fewer common are paintings, photographs and films with a geological theme. Uncommon are tools for microscopy and geological compass. 48 % of grammar schools incorporate to education laboratory work and geological or mineralogical excursion, 4 % only laboratory...
Cephalopods and biostratigraphy of North Bohemian Jurassic sediments
Hrbek, Jan ; Košťák, Martin (advisor) ; Ziegler, Václav (referee)
The Jurassic ammonites from the Northern Bohemia has been revised on the base of the material stored in the National Museum in Prague and the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. 23 species and 19 genera, belonging to 7 families were described on the basis of this systematical revision. This ammonite assemblage indicates a proportional occurence of the Boreal, Tethyan and also cosmopolitan taxa. Stratigraphically important taxa suggest a considerably longer period of sedimentation, predominantly represented by the Upper Jurassic carbonates. This interval may contain up to 9 ammonite zones. A pilot microfacial analysis of carbonates from Peškova stráň area (in Krásná Lípa vicinity) indicates a considerably higher variability of sedimentation area. The presence of micritic carbonates suggests the existence of a widespread areas in the Late Jurassic sea covering the Bohemian Massif. The biostratigraphy and palaeogeography is briefly discussed in the European Late Jurassic context. Key words: ammonites, Upper Jurassic, Northern Bohemia, carbonate sediments, biostratigraphy, palaeogeography
Using of locality of Bílichovské údolí for the excursions of students and public
Association of Turonian echinoids at the Nebužely locality (Bohemian Cretaceous Basin)
Bartušková, Nikola ; Fatka, Oldřich (advisor) ; Ziegler, Václav (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on morphological studies and taxonomic analyses of small regular and irregular echinoids found at the Nebužely locality; at this locality clastic sediments of Teplice Formation of Bohemian Cretaceous Basin are exposed. Presence of the belemnite Praeaxtinocamax bohemicus makes possible to assign the outcrop to late Turonian. Detailed morphological study of more than one hundred specimens enabled to distinguish four echinoids species (Echinogalerus, Glyphocyphus, Nucleolites, Phymosoma), less favourably preserved and/or very limited material is classified as belonging to two orders (Cidaroida, Holectypoida) and one family (Phymosomatidae), respectively. The next part of the thesis contains a possible palaeoecological reconstruction of the environment at the studied locality. Based on bathymetrically indicative molluscs, a shallow−water palaeoenvironment is suspected for this locality. Key words: echinoid, Bohemian Cretaceous Basin, Turonian
Agaricales, russulales and their application in school practise
Košťáková, Veronika ; Dostál, Petr (advisor) ; Ziegler, Václav (referee)
Agaricales and Russulales mushrooms have recently been evaluated from the locality of Čeřovka hill in the vicinity of Jičín town. The locality is also briefly characterized climatologicaly, geologicaly and biologicaly; short history of mycology, origin of mushrooms, systematics and taxonomy are also discussed . Methodology is based on both - i. e. macro- and microphotography (complete specimens and sporas). Every-week sampling enabled a study on fungi abundance, seasonality and diversity. Basic characteristics of each taxa are enclosed like a distribution maps. Two working hypothesis are introduced: The first occurrences of Agaricales and Russulales mushrooms in southern slopes of the locality and the differenet diversity in northern and southern slopes. Didactic part is divided into four parts - suggestion of natural trail, a key for mushroom species distinguishing, creating of personal collection and medical help in cases of poisoning. The school programm is established for secondary schools.
The Census of the Pigeon Population (Columba livia f. domestica) that Flew Over the Motolské Valley and the Census of this Species
Primas, Karel ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor) ; Ziegler, Václav (referee)
From November 2007 to February 2009 we censused feral Domestic Pigeons {Columba livia f. domestica) by means of the linear transect method and the observation method in Prague. We dealt with the ones that flew over the Motolské valley or stayed in the observed territories during the census - the Motolské valley, the Arbesovo square and the Kinských square. The purpose of this work was to learn the number of birds in these populations and hereby contribute to finding the number of the feral pigeons in the whole capital city of Prague. At the same time we investigated relationships between the number of pigeons and abiotic factors (the temperature of the air, the weather), the part of the day, the season of the year and the harvest season. The number of pigeons which were flying through the Motolské valley were on the average of 960 birds / one census (the detected maximum was 6 555), in the Motolské valley were present 60 pigeons / one census on the average (the detected maximum was 192), and in the squares were 50 birds /one census on the average (the detected maximum was 347). We have not found any relationships between the number of pigeons which were flying through the Motolské valley, and abiotic factors, the part of the day, the season of the year or the harvest season. On the other hand we have found...
The use of multimedia applications in the teaching of biology at the primary and secondary schools
