Memory and attention training of patients after stroke from the perspective of occupational therapy. Subtitle: Pilot study of the Cognitive application on a tablet
Adamusová, Andrea ; Janatová, Markéta (advisor) ; Zemánková, Zuzana (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to find out clinical usability of tablet application Cognitive for training of memory and attention of patients after stroke, in occupational therapist's view. Occupational therapists train cognitive functions (for instance memory and attention) of patients in various ways. Therapy using modern technologies, particularly tablet, is involved. Whereas in foreign countries tablets are used in occupational therapy in many means, in the Czech Republic their use is still minimal. The theoretical part contains a summary about this area. The application Cognitive, which is currently being developed, might help change the situation in the Czech Republic. Cognitive application contains two games, one for memory and the other one for attention. Is this application usable in occupational therapist's practice, though? Within the practical part, a study has been created, that found out the usability of new application Cognitive in practice with six patients after stroke. Occupational therapist trained memory and attention with them for 3 weeks, every weekday, each for 30 minutes. Data was processed in a form of a case study and using statistical methods. The study has found out that the application has a major drawback in poor variability of game elements, which is necessary for...
The utilization of CogniPlus system in cognitive-functions training during the occupational therapy for people with acquired brain injury
Pilzová, Martina ; Zemánková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Nováková, Olga (referee)
Aquired brain injury is still a current topic and a serious problem nowadays. After a treatment, a lot of consequences appear which cause a long-term inability to work and invalidation of many people. One of the serious problems is a disorder of cognitive functions which disables people to get back to a normal life. One of the options how to affect the cognitive functions impairment is a system called CogniPlus. Theoretical part of this work presents aquired brain injury, its dividing, basic classification and the consequences. Furthermore, this work dedicates to rehabilitation of cognitive functions using both computers and conventional methods. It also shows the work of the occupational therapist and the possibility of cognitive function testing. The aim of the research is to find out if CogniPlus cognitive function training is more effective than the conventional pencil-paper method. 20 people were tested in this study. Unfortunately, one of them had to quit due to health problems. The experimental and the control group had a therapy once or twice a week. All the participants went through Addenbrooke cognitive test and through a questionnaire of cognitive mistakes at the beginning and at the end of the testing. The experimental group showed a significant improvement in the global score ACE and...

The role of the occupational therapist in the training of cognitive functions in patients after stroke. Subtitle: Beds early rehabilitation
Wegscheiderová, Barbora ; Zemánková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Angerová, Yvona (referee)
This thesis deals with the effectiveness of individual vs. group cognitive therapies in stroke patients by training sheets, and pencil-paper exercises. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the issue of this disease and the current study of cognitive training. The main aim of the practical part is to compare the effectiveness of group and individual cognitive training by means of intensive cognitive training in patients after stroke (within a year after a stroke). Another aim of the study is to find out how patients were satisfied with cognitive function by using the Schwartz scale of therapy. The study included 20 patients who were selected based on predetermined entry criteria. Subsequently, they were divided into two groups of 10 patients. Group 1 underwent individual cognitive therapy and group 2 underwent group therapy. In both groups, cognitive therapy was performed three times a week for one month. The time of one therapy was always 35-40 minutes. Patients were examined at baseline with the Montreal Cognitive Test and Schwartz's scale of therapy evaluation was added to the test at the end of the test. The results showed comparable improvements in the Montreal cognitive test in both groups. Furthermore, they showed comparable...
Problematic Areas in the Everyday Life of Patients with Huntington's Disease. Subtitle: A Suggestion of Compensatory Strategies in Coping with Cognitive Impairment
Sýkorová, Jitka ; Zemánková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Sládková, Petra (referee)
This diploma thesis explores problematic areas of patients with Huntington's disease in their performance during activities of daily living (ADLs) from the perspective of patients and their caregivers. The aim of the research was also to assess a possible correlation between cognitive impairment and the patient's performance in ADL. Twenty-five patients with their caregivers met the selection criteria for the research. There were used standardized assessment methods available in Czech: the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) and the questionnaire for caregivers called Bristol Activities of Daily Living Scale (BADLS-CZ). The statistical analyses consisted of methods of the nonparametric statistics, qualitative analysis was processed by data categorizing. Caregivers reported more problematic areas in ADLs which was significantly confirmed in the statistical hypothesis testing (p <0,05). A significant correlation was seen between the results of the questionnaire and the results of the MoCA assessment (rSp = -0,620; p <0,05). For various reasons, patients with Huntington's disease did not mention as many problematic areas in performing ADL as their caregivers. Therefore, it is appropriate in clinical practice to supplement the assessment of the patient's...
